Geez Barclay, if I knew you were going to get this involved and write a big response I would of posted to save you the trouble.

You have to really know the NEC system board and have seen a lot of the various problems they have.

When Curt says it's loosing it's memory, it's not really loosing it. The memory and it's adjustments are still there. The board has lost it's ability to lock onto that memory which is called a signal entry.

Doh'

Then maybe I'm completely sideways and the problem is more at the interface level between analog&digital...

The problem is in the tank circuits which also control the ability to lock onto various input signals. The system board is designed to be able to lock to various signals. Then you setup an entry for a particular signal. Then everytime that particular signal is inputted the system board identifies that signal and locks to it under that entry, using all the saved data pertaining to it.

I actually have a lot of hours invested in these system board problems.

The problem with these system boards is they sometimes loose this ability showing different symptoms on occasion. I'm pretty sure I identified the problem parts a long time ago but never tried the solution for 2 reasons.

1. being there was little interest shown to be worth any more effort

2. the parts are not easily found and would also take much effort.

By the look of the LVPS schematics of my PG xtra it has active PFC, however looking at plain PG's schematics it doesn't have. this is Funny because the creepy old GP5000 also had active PFC.

Power factor correction?
