@Curt

I am actually working since 2009 in the Reballing Business.

Really would suggest you go IR.

The INT 732 is a very unstable beast, had it for a few months and only problems getting constant results.

I settled for an Achi IR PRO SC which i modded somewhat with the German Elstein Heaters.

Mainly i repair Notebooks and Game Consoles (done over a 1000 and counting)

There is a shop in the US which has the modded Version of the ACHI IR PRO SC which has all the ugprades built in.

This one ships worldwide: http://thebgastore.com/LYIRPROSCV2040theBGAstore.aspx

Just shout if you need more infos.

Cheers
Ronald

OK, if I'm lucky, I might just be able to order this in the next week or so. I'm going with Bodi's suggestion above:

http://thebgastore.com/LYIRPROSCV2040theBGAstore.aspx

A couple more questions, just because I'm new to this:

1) Check out the second video at the bottom of the above link. It shows that once the chip is removed and the solder pads are cleaned, they paint on flux and reheat the chip. They do not show any new solder being applied. Is that correct, or would I need to add a preformed bunch of solder balls prior to placing the chip back on the cleaned board?
2) They show no pressure being applied to the chip as it's being reheated. That's normal? No slight pressure needed to make sure all 80 or 120 pads get good contact with the board?

@Curt

1. Yes if you remove the chip you need to clean it with an desolder wick.
After that you use new Solder Balls (really cheap via Bga Store or ebay) and apply the new solder balls.
That is the term "reballing"

As another less time consuming option is to buy the chips preballed from china.
I can send you links ( I know the ones which have better quality)

Two Options:

A. http://thebgastore.com/DirectHeatReballStationavailible40theBGAstore.aspx

plus http://thebgastore.com/ConsoleBGAstencilsDirectheattype40theBGAstore.aspx

This is what i use to reball the chips

or

B. http://thebgastore.com/New2011SilverReballStation9090mm40theBGAstore.aspx

http://thebgastore.com/210PcsNonDirectHeatStencils40theBGAstore.aspx

2.

No you donīt need to apply any pressure.
The applied flux seats the Chip steady and from 180-225 Degrees Celsius it gets to liquid state
and centers by itself (cause the solder pads on the board are actually not even and lock in).

As soon as it cools down again itīs tight as a rock Wink

Any Questions... just shout.

Cheers

Awesome, thanks! I figured the video was missing the step of putting on the new solder balls. Time to stock up on XBox 360s to practice on! I've got 5 here right now...

Make sure you don't drink any coffee before doing it!! You need a steady hand placing the solder balls, even with the template. After do a close inspection to make sure each pad has a ball. Then heat with IR gun.

Hey Curt,

Not yet. The bastard on eBay flaked on buying the 909, so I've got to put getting it and the MetCal on hold. Once I sell that remaining 909, I'll order it.
