When using my Sony 1271 with the 4 or 5 cable RGB connection from my old video processor the picture is fine, but when i use the 3 cable RGB connection I only get a green picture from a new OPPO DVD player I just got. I tried this with another player with only 3 RGB's and got the same result. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Welcome to the forum!

Those "3 RGB's" from the Blu-ray player aren't actually RGB; rather, they're component, or YPbPr. Component is a totally different encoding scheme (from RGB). To feed a 1271, you'll need a component-RGB transcoder, or better yet, something like an HD Fury or HDMI input card, which converts the digital signal from the HDMI output of the Oppo to an analog RGBHV signal the 1271 can handle.

OR pick up a trancoder to go from Component/YpbPr to RGBHV

Thanks everyone for the info! I was wondering which item would give me a better picture on my Sony 1271 - the transcoder with gamma boost or an hdmi card for the Sony? Thanks

Hi,

The HDMI Card will yield the best picture quality as there will be only one video conversion step (Digital to Analog) instead of two (Digital to Analog to Analog). Especially the second conversion could lower sharpness and reduce picture detail...
