I have been playing with this unit for some time now. have max the raster to within 1/4 ". have centered the image onto the raster. I notice that the green tube has some wear that is just barely noticeable by just myself but not by my wife. That light area is about 6 " from the right side of the screen.
What do I need to do to get rid of this , do I need to postion the Pj over to one side more ???? Question

No, you need to live with it, or replace the green tube. Why would it be like that?

It could be cause it was installed wrong and the picture wasnt in the middle of the tube face, or it couldve been part of a blend...

Can you take some tube face shots and show us this wear?

I can't see how moving it to one side would work you would need to move it closer to the screen or adjust the image to be inside the wear but this would reduce the image size if its not that noticable then leave it.

Someone else with a G90 might help as they would know what you can adjust.

Youd need to move it further back from the screen to allow the image to fit within the wear pattern. Id like to see some pics of this to see how bad it is or what is causing it though.

I would say he would be talking about the start of this: http://www.curtpalme.com/TubeCondition_PoorInstall.shtm and the projector was likely installed wrong at a previous time...

I've seen this on a 1272. There's a guy here in Toronto that installed his 1272 a little off center and ended up with exactly what was described.

Yeah and once that is done, you either replace the tubes, do a wear leveling, or live with it and hope it slowly goes away.

Or you set the projector up "wrong" and adjust to it. That's what I did. Everyone's happy.

Well there is a downside to that too, youll wind up with the focus being abit rat sh*t on the side where it gets close to the edge of the tube, depending on how close it gets i spose... Youd probably even want to have the projector skewed abit so you still keep the red and blue as centered as possible...

I wouldn't worry about it. Center and maximize or replace the tube!

You mainly view/focus on the middle of the screen. What you are doing is what most CRT'rs go through,... its called OCD

It is similar with maximized raster and the loss of focus and beam control along the edge. Its there yes, do you see it during normally viewing?? Not usually.

IMO Smile

thanks for all replies guys.... It really looks like it was not center on the tube face in the first place, I'll just have to live with this, or replace tube. How does one set a camera to take pictures ? It is quite minor, but I didn;t want to offset to one side and then find out from you guys this is not how to do it. Yes.... thanks Afryia....I wife mentions that lots when dealing this crt baby. I'll try to post pictures, never tried that before.

after looking at the wear area, it's 7 on the wear scale used on this site. I'm going to just live with it.

Another question on the setup, you use the internal patterns for all of the basic conv. For each input { using moone card , input C } should I be using a external test pattern from my source ? And do I use the memory blocks in any way when setting up, at any time. I just can't get my head around the memory blocks or input the G90 uses ?

The way i do my convergence is i use the internal patterns to get it all as close to spot on as can be done ( being that its an NEC in my case, its perfect ) then from there i will turn off the test patterns and find a spot in the movie running on the source i am setting up that has areas going from white to black with defined edges, and ill decide then if i need to adjust anything more.

At one point, i did have to adjust the 1920x1080i with an external pattern cause it wasnt spot on with the internal, but it was only the static setting i had to adjust, and only on that one res, and only the vertical lines didnt match up ( had to move the red and blue horizontally by a couple presses )

Another thing i did find with another source is the keystone was different on the source to what it was on the internal test pattern, but i adjusted that with the picture running cause that was easy enough... Ive also seen the same with pin cushion...

So at the end of the day, do it any way you like, you should be able to get it spot on with the internal patterns and make very minor adjustments with the picture running if need be...

If I read the manual correctlly, it says use a input that is not connected with a source and use this to do all convergens. This is what I did and when a go to input C, the conv is off and I have to redo almost everything again, mind you just minor adjustments.

f*ck the manual then.... When all else fails, THEN read the manual....

Do the first setting at 480i if you can, if not, the lowest you push into this projector.... Then save that as default. Then go from there.

Ok then.... On the G90, how do I set the unit to display the 480i test patterns ? I think it only give you the P2 for setting this unit up with.

You need to put in a 480i signal to make the test patterns come up at that res.

I now have the enternal test pattern line with the screen, all tubes are converged pretty good. I now need to use the external test pattern from the vp 50 and adjust the setup again.

I would like to run 1080i-60 or 1080i-50......A question which one would look and work better ? I use the unit for viewing mostly satl and some movies from dvd.
