Haven't posted on here much since I lost it all in a house fire last February. Couple jokes here and there. Talked w/ Tim about replacing my old crt w/ one he has, and although he had great pricing and all, I decided not to do anything until I'm back into my own place. That hasn't happened yet; retirement coming up though still looking.

I had sold and installed a great BG801s about 5-6 yrs ago and the pub was very happy, but a new "co"-owner came into the scene a yr ago, and he wanted "newer" technology. He replaced the 801 w/ a POS LCD projector made for office presentations. (I refused to install, told him he was in for problems). Needless to say, it didn't even make it 4 months and was on the 2nd lamp - 9 months and it was dead. He came to me and asked me what to do, and I told him go back to CRT 1st choice for minimum problems, or 2nd choice, put a crowbar between his ass and his wallet and buy a much higher quality LCD. He went with the later choice, and asked me to find him the "best for the least". I found him a Sony VLP-HS10 that only had 150 hrs on it for $250 (I got $75 markup), and an extra lamp for $50 bucks more. I installed it and he asked me if I wanted the old 801, and I said sure.... I couldn't believe how dirty it had become. Something has happened to it, and it doesn't want to fire up. So it's clean up time, and dive in to see whats wrong. Any good suggestion on cleaning about 1/8" of dust, beer, and cig smoke off the lenses and unit? I usually used camara lens cleaner before, but this sh*t is thick and gummy.

I went north an hour drive to Novi to look at a cherry Porsche 986-s and while in the garage, saw a NEC XG-110LC w/ Moome component card sitting in a case and got talking about CRT and high end stereo - the guy loved it, but the WF was into it (much like the 986). Said he had had it on E-bay and Craig's list for $850, but no bites. Ended up buying the 986 for 2/3 normal price and as well got the XG tossed in to boot. Got crt home, plugged it in and feed input to it- great picture. Oh yeah - Porsche runs super too!

Two CRTs with no place to hang'em. Time to talk with the landlord.

As for the 801- check the scan fail LED and the HV shutdown LED on the EHT board. Both should be off. I'll bet one will be on.

Also, now you know why I don't deal with bars any more. Killer business with the local strip and sports bars before the internet came along, that's really why I was in CRT in the first place, but in the last 5-10 years, business is slow, and the customer always knows more than you do.

Do they still allow smoking in Ohio bars? IF so, ANY digital will have nothing but issues.

You'll love the NEC XG, I have the air coupled version (XG1100) and aside from slightly lower contrast ratio because it is air coupled vs liquid coupled, it has an outstanding image.

I don't know if the LC version is as capable for lumens, but the 1100 is the brightest 8" CRT you can get. Plus with the amount of electronic controls it has, you can really do anything you want with these projectors.

Point is... DAMN you are lucky! The NEC will run smoother than the porsche probably lol

Good luck, yes............ But I'd give it all up if I still had the house. I was getting it to just where I wanted it heading into my retirement years.

They've outlawed smoking damn near everywhere here in Ohio, and especially bars, although some still do it. The pub I was dealing with has enforced the ban after the law was passed couple years ago, but has made a "patio" where people go to smoke. Michigan has similar law now, too. I don't mine it so much, except for the state trumping over a businessman's right to run a shop the way they want to. GF hates the law (heavy smoker) - she also hates my no smoking in the Porsche rule...... always want to take the other cars.

Yes the luck was good to get the two units free.
Will start to clean up the BG801s this weekend, then check like you recommended Curt. Any good suggestion from anyone on good crud cutter?? May repaint the box after I clean it up.... It's the lenses I'm most worried about, don't want to screw them up. Might give the 801s to my son in Columbus to start his basement home theatre after I get it up and going again.

The NEC I just put a cover over it for now.

Curt - Did you completely wipe out your stock on these older machine parts when you had your clearance sale?? Also thinking of getting the Moome HDMI card for the NEC to replace the Moome composite card to make HD easier. What's your take??
