Hi to all !

Hope itīs okay that i started a new thread , cause for every other user i guess itīs more useful this way.

My Issue:

Something really stupid happened yesterday to me and i really need your help.
After a 10hr run , the bnc cable for RED fell of the Connector cause I tripped (stupid me).

It seem to shorted somehow and the Marquee 8500LC shutdown.

I waited a few minutes checked if the VIM was still seated correctly and started up the Marquee again.
Sadly i donīt get any menu on the screen , or anything from the signal lines.

Got no errorleds on.. and the tubes glow.

Maybe a resistor on the VIM Bad?

Any suggestion what i could check?

Thanx again
Ronald

P.S.: I found a older thread were a other user had to change the HVPS Fuse... i checked that fuse and itīs fine

VIM has most likely shorted out.

The vim is hard to repair from what I have tried. check the two Green fuses that look like resistors . they are the +/- 5 volt lines.

Guys

Shorting the input does nothing, maybe the vim front panel is bent and the board does not seat right?

@Tim in Phoenix

Checked the Front panel yesterday.. looks fine to me. (Chassis is in parts so i can see how it connects with a flashlight)

Well.. fun didnīt last long... again

It ran for about an hour, i changed the Input Frequency via Menu to a higher settings.. and I heard a pop and the picture was gone.

Checked all boards after that if i could see anything visually broken.. nope.

Now i tried to start it again.. i get a ticking noise in the Region of the VNB of the Red tube.
And no picture.

So i tried without the Red HV Line and the Marquee starts normally again.
But the ticking sounds return even than.

If i try again with the Red HV Line in it starts but only ticks and no picture at all.

The Tubes are all glowing aswell ... I checked.

I really think i will salvage this machine for parts cause everyday a new issue pops up.

Sad thing is i put so much effort in cleaning the machine and changing the glycol and so on.

Would have been better to let it run for a few days as some guys here suggested.

Really just wanted to align it one time correctly and watch a movie just to see what I can expect
from the Marquee in general cause i never had an CRT before that.

So itīs a real bummer for me..

Thanx again for your advice...

Ronald

Keep the red HV connected and try it by removing the black umbilical cord to the red tube and see what happens. the PJ should run for a bit with the red disconnected.

Removed the Black cord as you told me. Ticking still Sad
Even if i remove the Red HV Lead and the Black Cord itīs ticking.

I just noticed a strong smell in the Front of the Red Tube. Canīt see any arcing anyway....

Any suggestions?

Cheers

You will not be able to see it if its in the potted section. That is where the ticking comes from from what others have said.

Most likely you need a new HVPS. Is there anyone close by to test theirs for you?

@Nashou

Nope.. i really donīt know anybody in the home theater scene who has a crt .. all digitalos now Wink

But I am in contact with an other user for Germany who will eventually help me out with test boards.

Are your really sure it can be the HVPS??

Cause if i pull the HV Line of Red, the Green / Blue Tube are working normally and show a stable menu.

Thanx again

Ronald

IF so, it sounds like your red tube cracked. Fortunately it's the red tube, they are cheap. I've got some if you need one.

Take the covers off the top of the tube and look around, look into the lens also.

Checked the Neck of the Tube aswell... nada .. no cracks visible.
