Hi guys,

i have a chance to do an upgrade from G70 with 3800 hours to Marquee 9500LC Ultra with 2700 hours. Never seen any Marquee in action and i love the picture of G70. I wouldnīt even think about changing G70 to something else but unfortunately my sony already have some mask plus i have some issues with blue tube which i canīt get focus on the right side of the picture. Anyway i have an opportunity to get some decent 9500 ultra for 1000 euro but is it worth??? Will i see any major improvements in sharpness or overall picture quality???
I will use it 50/50 for hd and dvd material, my screen is about 2.5meter wide.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated..

Very Happy

The only advantage the G70 might have is colors, if the 9500 doesn't have colored elements.

I've owned G70 before and now Vision 1 and have not regretted since.

Taking note that I have put new tube for my G70 and still the Vision 1 is another leap as compared to G70.

Make sure it's got the colored C-elements -- or watch it before you buy it to make sure you're OK with the colors!

Its the c-elements you want. Makes a BIG difference to the colorimetry.

I has the green but not the red, so the reds will be undersaturated and have a more orange look. You might be able to find someone with a red or if you can find a Sony 1292 red tube and use its red C-element.

Also once you get the PJ look at the bellows to make sure they do not leak and also not sweating or slimy to the touch.

I just want to mention that all of these Marquees from that seller have P43 phosphor on green. Great for 3d, but for 2d? Please read yourself:

Here is one about brightness of P43 phosphor, please read the nidi post:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=852409&highlight=nidi+green

It is hard to find something about the colour of the green tube, so here is one from the netherlands. Somewhere in these six pages are colour measurements of P43 tube:

http://translate.google.de/translate?hl=de&sl=nl&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.htforum.nl%2Fyabbse%2Findex.php%3Ftopic%3D86065.0

But I think it is easier to get a new green tube, than a red C-Element Sad

oops...it's always good to ask Smile i think i'll pass on that one, i became addicted to G70s colours and every kind of downgrade in that area is unacceptable. For my need, the g70 is sharp enough so the sharpness factor is not deciding for me, it'd rather have some PJ with newer tubes and/or better condition that mine....

anyway i'll look further for mint g70 i guess Smile

Try and find a G90, which will be a significant upgrade from the 8" tubes on the G70. They can be found quite reasonably priced these days. Just do you due diligence and make sure the YA board isnt toast (if you can verify the IC 421 SN is the one that doesn't self destruct, even better) and if course that the tubes are in good condition. Burn in on the green is inevitable, even after a short time, if the factory settings are not adjusted. BIAS and GAIN are set way too high to maximize light output, but at the expense of tube life.

Well here in europe it's not so easy to find g90, most of them cost more than 3500 euro and i didn't want to spend more that 1500 so i guess my choices are "limited" to g70, marquee 9500 or some barcos like 808s, 1209 or 1208, i pretty much can live with such "limits" Smile)). I would be very happy with mint g70, anything better would be just a bonus...

You can also have them freight shipped for not an unreasonable amount from the US. I'm sure Curt has plenty of data points. The PS are universal and only require the fuse to be switched to a 240V rating.

$5500. or just get the 9500 and install a brand new green tube for $700. Tim Martin at E-tech has NOS high resolution tubes in stock right now.

He would still need a red element. Of course, the stock G90 green element isn't spot on either.
