I purchased this movie mainly because it was a Luc Besson film. Many of you remember him as the director of The Fifth Element, an often reference material used in projector comparisons. The opening credits of The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec instantly remind you that there is some sort of relationship between these two films (yet 13 apart). As the movie got going, the narration instantly reminded me of that in Amélie in that it is fast paced and in french.
While listening to french can be a chore, trying to keep up with the English subtitles while trying to watch Louise Bourgoin is just plain difficult. And speaking of her, I first became aware of her from The Girl From Monaco trailer. As for the film itself I do not wish to spoil the story and if anyone is interested one can easily click the embedded link to IMDB for that.
As for the Blu-ray, it is really good eye candy, which may help with digesting the story. The scenes I felt were sharp, colorful, and some really night clips that BL aficionados can really enjoy. I had to purchase this through either France or UK Amazon (cannot remember which one), and it is Region-B encoded (as labeled), but played flawlessly in my $58 multi-region BD player. The DTS-HD audio was a real treat.
The one drawback of this film on BD is the price. Currently it is about 15 pounds Sterling and that becomes about $30 after monetary conversion and shipping. The up side is that it ships almost immediately (unlike Amazon in the USA) and if ordered on Monday it'll get to you by Friday (freaking amazing). And being a Luc Besson fan of sorts, I had no problem in the decision to buy it. If you likes The Fifth Element and or Amélie then you probably will like this BD.

I doubt it will ever get an NA release. I do not remember it ever being offered in American theaters, and if we based it solely on french-speaking Canadian box office results during its release, I just doubt anyone will make the effort. It is why I didn't bother waiting on an Amazon.ca offering and just got it from overseas.
And while not a standalone overseas buy, I bought two other titles at the same time so the shipping was easier to handle.
