Sure, if he wants, send it all in, all that might change is the shipping charge to return it, but not the bench time..

I was thinking about an Epson 8350, but reading up on it over on AVS I have decided it won't make me happy. The other two front runners as of now are the Panasonic AE 4000 or the Epson 8500. I'm still evaluating them, and have been for quite awhile.
Here's the rub though, all of the screen shots I've seen posted look like crap, I realize that screen shots are not all telling, but if every one likes like turd...well maybe I'm still in CRT land?
Also fixing Gozer has to be cheaper than buying something else.
I mean New tubes, New bellows, Color corrected RED and GREEN, Newest Moome board, Mike Parker Vim and Neckboards, rebuilt by Curt HDM Modified too.
So how much more $$$ or do I just quit.
I don't like to quit, the only thing I've ever quit was drinking |
I am not going to rehash digital/CRT. Personally for me, I haven't seen a LCD(like the ones you are looking at) that would make me leave CRT. The pictures look ok, but nothing to write home about. That leaves dlp and lcos. DLPs look nice but don't have the on/off cr. If that isn't an issue, then there are some inexpensive ($1k to $1.5k) dlps out there. LCOS has the on/off cr, but fall short of dlp everywhere else. If you have the money, then grab a JVC. You can sometimes find a good deal on a used JVC on ebay or videogon.
The cheapest route is probably fixing Gozer, but that is a personal decision.

If you want, send me the whole backplane/heatsink assembly, and I"ll repair it for the price previously quoted. Send in the CLM and HDM as well if you want, which controls the V board and convergence board. No charge to test them, assuming there's only one fault on one board. |
Your not being an A-hole at all. I wasn't against the price, I wanted spare boards.
I'm curious about the CLM. Would This also account for the convergence always being two or three lines off every time the P/J is turned off over night then back on? Or why the convergence has been drifting even when on since day one?
If I ship everything, is it going to Blaine Washington or to BC?

It will go to BC. You save a bit shipping to Blaine, but I get nailed customs charges, so it works out to the same amount.
Here's how to send it in. I'd send the back heatsink in a different box due to the size and weight.
I'll check everything, incl convergence drift.
