|
|
Well everything has been going fine, I pulled Gozer off the ceiling to do the tubes. I thought to myself I better set Him up again on the floor; so when the new tubes go in I would be sure everything would be ready and working right. Well it's not working right.So here is what has been going on;
Gozer ran for 2-2.5 hours then.... H-fail light comes on.
No problem, clean and re-seat HDM ...H-fail goes away. Gozer works for 20 minutes then V fail comes on. Clean vertical board connectors with de-oxit, slide vertical board back and forth on rear heat sink, put clips back on. Gozer comes to life again. Then 2 minutes later V-fail. Repeat previous steps, 2 minutes later Gozer shuts down V-fail light is on. I also removed the ribbon connector cleaned it with De-oxit replaced ,no difference.
Sounds like the V-board has failed.
Anything else to try?
Edit: Gozer rested for 20 minutes cooled down and now everything is OK again. I think because I have the plastic covers off of the tube housings I'm having a heat build -up issue?
Anyway, anything else?

Hi,
Check also the DPB on CLM and make sure that the back motherboard and upper motherboard connecting firmly (once I ran to this and caused a lot of headache and ended up in a CLM buying -without score of course)

OK My vertical board has had it. So I buy a spare, put it in and it has a problem too, different then the one I had, but damn can I get some different luck?
My board runs then for no reason shuts down with a V-fail,or sometimes a H-fail light. Pull the connectors it resets runs fine..,for a while.
The board I just bought goes in and it has a snapping sound, [no not HV snap it is the V-board] then the test grids move down the screen... snap back up.... then snap... back down the screen.
What the hell?

You may need to check the solder joints for the pins on the connector for the Vert board on the UMB.

Actually you may even have to check the pin soldering for the HDM on the UMB and HDM also.

Thanks Mac. I put my old board back in the snap goes away but the grid lines on the blue drop down half way across the screen. The connector pins on that board are bent from having my foot on them.
Yep I dropped it while trying to clean it, bent down to get it, kicked it, then moved to pick it up, but stepped on it. This was on the carpet too,so static galore.
That board is toast. The new to me board is faulty with the snap, no other boards are around to swap in, so I give up.
I'm going digital.

If I have one more issue....
| I wrote: | S.C. I know what you mean. After putting in the PT22's and having to "work around" the issues they've caused, I can honestly say one more issue and I will part out my 9500. I just don't have the time or want anymore to fiddle with it. I want to just watch a movie. The noise a CRT makes is a big deal to me. I have my Mitsubishi RPTV back in the theater while I am waiting to fix the HV problem I have. The noise floor is none existent, it does make for a more pleasurable movie watching experience.
I am far to involved with studying now to waste time chasing the perfect picture. It was kinda fun when I had the time, but now life has changed, so I will adapt to what works for me. That may be digital, even if Gozer runs like a top, the PT22's are dimmer than I think I am willing to tolerate.

Yeah, Yeah, have fun guys. But if it would just have stayed running...I would not have had to touch it.

I wish that was it , but no. I pulled my back and my leg won't move right, so I am dragging it around, and kicking things ...a lot.

I was thinking about an Epson 8350, but reading up on it over on AVS I have decided it won't make me happy. The other two front runners as of now are the Panasonic AE 4000 or the Epson 8500. I'm still evaluating them, and have been for quite awhile.
Here's the rub though, all of the screen shots I've seen posted look like crap, I realize that screen shots are not all telling, but if every one likes like turd...well maybe I'm still in CRT land?
Also fixing Gozer has to be cheaper than buying something else.
I mean New tubes, New bellows, Color corrected RED and GREEN, Newest Moome board, Mike Parker Vim and Neckboards, rebuilt by Curt HDM Modified too.
So how much more $$$ or do I just quit.
I don't like to quit, the only thing I've ever quit was drinking

Well, not to sound like an Ahole here, but there's a reason my boards are more expensive than an as is board. I back them with a warranty. If you want, send me the whole backplane/heatsink assembly, and I"ll repair it for the price previously quoted. Send in the CLM and HDM as well if you want, which controls the V board and convergence board. No charge to test them, assuming there's only one fault on one board.
