You just did. Wink

If the CRT is well set up and you can show someone it running while well set up and convince them that they'll be able to move it and set it up well themselves (or that you'll promise to set it up for them), then .... you may get a few hundred for it.

I have basically the same projector with liquid coupling (LC), same as what Dave (Person99) had. Likely in the spring we'll be doing the basement of the new house we're in now and a digital will be going in so that I can do a 10' wide CIH setup. I don't expect to get anything for my Zenith 1200 - it served me well. It's temporarily set up on the floor on my existing 8 foot wide screen and it looks fantastic and will keep me happy for the next ~ 6-9 months.

So Kal,

What will be your digital replacement?

I'm saying that if anyone in a room with a condition is ignorant to a better room with a better condition than they might not be aware of what better situation they could have, and thus remain happy where they are.

No idea. That'll be decided in the spring or whenever I move forward with finishing the basement. That said, probably LCOS based, probably the RS45.

Just so I understand, you are saying that the demo rooms could have been better and that your room is probably better than these demo rooms?

I'm not saying that--I cannot since I was not there. But for a lot of folks, they seldom take into consideration that what they are observing may not be in their best interest for a lot of reasons--some of which include not allowing their eyes to acclimate to the environment, not controlling ambient lighting, etc.

I never trust the offering review unless i know that person, have seen their previous setups, and have shown an awareness of BL and CR and how it affects image depth. That is the nice thing about CRT fans. Of course, not everyone outside this forum cares about those variables and are simply looking for something else as the priority.

But I have found others state 'bat cave' and then have light/white painted room surfaces, have sconces on, etc. and then go about judging BL and CR.

I was very impressed by new Epson reflective and the ability to manage black levels. You must have a bat-cave and make a calibration with a probe in order to take the most of it.

Actually, I find that an issue with CRT fans in the last few year is all they care about is BL and on/off CR many times not fully understanding it.

There are many other factors. CRTs and horrible horrible ANSI CR and after watching bright scenes on a 647:1 ANSI CR PJ, bright scenes on a CRT look very flat and 2D. Where the CRT excels is the low APL scenes look 3D and natural.

However, I also see a belief that the on/off of a CRT is greater than what it truly is. I've seen many CRT set ups that in the quest of the true black they crush the hell out of black and have a worse picture.

I think you have grossly overgeneralized here as I don't think everyone on this forum cares about overall picture quality nor do I think very few on say AVS do.
