OK, the flat screen in my living room does not have a head phone jack. In fact it only has one audio output (optical digital).
I need to connect a set of head phones to this as part of a game platform. There is no amplifier attached to this TV and I don't wish to ad one. I just need to go from optical to LR stereo (1/8th mini jack) with no amp/pre-amp. Is there such a beast???

I'm going mental listening to hours on end of shoot-em up game play and Fall is here. I'm not expecting things to get any better Rolling Eyes

I'm sorry, you're obsolete. Please plug the optical cable into your digital clone, and you're good to go.

If there is such a box, I'm sure it will be more expensive as buying a cheap amp and putting it behind the set.

No headphone jack? What were they thinking???

Seems finding an all-in-one box isn't easy since what you need is a digital optical to analog converter, followed by an amp with volume control.

I hate to say this but it may be easiest to buy a cheap $100 stereo receiver that has all this in it.

Mac,it is sure, that the audio amplifiers in that set class-d amps, with digital input, but these amps are sensible to load impedance, so the conventional series resistor-earplug set up may not work fine too...

If it wasn't still under warrantee (with extended warrantee) I would consider doing it, but the way my luck has been lately...

The impedance load of the ear phones would be way higher then the installed speakers, therefore the amp load would be way less with the ear phones.

Thats no excuse......... just remove the jack before taking it in for repairs.

Thats what you get for buying a digital piece of crap..... Laughing

Well after picking through years of STUFF, I found a old 2 channel amp. Gefen and monoprice have something like what I'm looking for for reasonably short money. I just wish I didn't have to put anything out there. Now I need to plug in two more devices.
How about a Dolby digital pre-amp with head phone jack on the front?

See, now it's getting more complicated.

A pre-amp with a headphone jack? How does that work???? Laughing

So much easier with a jack just hanging from the back.....

Is this what you could use?

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&p_id=6884&seq=1&format=2&utm_source=September_Newsletter_4&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=September_Newsletter_4_Email_P_6884

And then go from RCA to 1/8 mini?

If the TV is over 40" I can't imagine honestly having headphones attached to it since your face would be getting a tan from the backlights, or youd just be way to fricken close to the TV period.

I have a head phone jack on my 42" RPTV it's awesum. OF course my headphones have a 20 foot cord too. There's also the 900MHz wireless ones too.
