Ive read about upgraded boards for the marquee on here and seen them for sale on videogon. are these types of upgrades available for other pjs like nec xg's? could i go out and buy some capacitors and other goodies and just replace old parts? what exactly do these mods entail?

I would suggest having a set of back-up boards before "just popping in" anything. For the marquee specifically, this thread pretty much talks about everything and anything anyone has ever done to one (more or less)
