The blend zone at low IRE's has always been troublesome for me with my blend. I have always thought that there was a flaw with the TVOne's that made a completely invisible blendzone impossible. I was wrong! I just finished calibrating both projectors with my new i1 Display 3/ ChromaPure software, and the 'zone is gone.
The new sensor absolutely blows away my previous sensor and allowed me to get a gamma at 2.22 (+-.03) from 5IRE to 100IRE! Previously, anything below 20IRE was iffy at best. Big difference.
I set up my pair of VideoEq's with the new software for 21 pt. control and found that 5IRE was stable and repeatable.
After I baselined the VideoEq's, I set the black level on each XGLC so that each color was just barely visible on the screen at 0IRE. Then, I calibrated grayscale on the weaker of the two projector's and adjusted 100 through 5 IRE using the VideoEq.
Then, feeding a 0 IRE signal, I adjusted the 0 level on the VideoEQ until each color just disappeared.
I printed out the Y values for each of the 20 pts, and used these values as targets for the second projector.
Now - Not only is the blendzone problem gone, blacklevel detail is incredible. There is a scene in the 5th Element looking down at the street which now shows detail I had never seen before, and yet that which is black is BLACK!
Gonna watch a bunch of movies this weekend!!!

lol, he was going to lend it to me anyways. We just have been trying different workflow methods.
Looks like the Bob is describing is a combination of some advice I gave him and a little of his own ides.

.
I don't know how much the sensor is by itself, but it is $440 when included with Chromapure standard.

I am not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but it is definitely not a toy.
I just had dinner last night with someone who is very knowledgeable about this. He got me even more excited about this meter. He says that its performance is incredible not only for the price, but even against very high end meters. Measured against reference meters, the i1 compares favorably. And it is fast, as i think he said 10IRE on his RS40 took three seconds. I am going to ask Spectracal and this person if an i1 Pro is even needed for profiling.
Nash,
Give me a call if you want me to ask Derek anything in particular.

All colorimeters will drift over time and can benefit from periodic recalibration or field profiling with a spectro like the i1Pro.
The "PRO" version of the Display 3 we carry will also increase the accuracy for 8+ different display types since some displays read slightly differently giving slightly different results.

I to would like to try a three CRT blend but will have to wait for funding . Or maybe one of you guys can leave me in your will .
Three seams like such a off number,.
Maybe a dual blend stack,Six is a good even number.
I'm sure Curts got six projectors laying around, May be some one should plan a crt retreat.
You guy are awesom , And I love the fact that It's not so much a computition ,but more of a pashion.
POST SOME PICTURES PLEASE !

Actually three projectors would not do as well as two. With two, using either a 1.78 AR or 2.35 AR screen, virtually all of the usable area of the tube face is used. If you used three, about 1/3 of each tube would be wasted from side to side.
There are three big advantages to blending crt's:
1 - High resolutions are no longer a problem with 8" tubes as the full tube height is used - no overlap of scan lines.
2 - Much higher light output. Since you are using the full tube face and there are twice as many tubes, there is probably about three times the total light output. My unity gain screen is 126" wide and I have more than enough lumens and my contrast controls are both below 50. Should last for many years!
3 - Video bandwidth each projector sees is almost 1/2 of single projector. If you wished, you could even use 1920X800@120Hz if you went for 3D.
