Hello I am new to the CRT PJ world and know nothing about them and would appreciate any help . I picked up a Runco DTV-943 from the goodwill where i live. Since it was donated it has no cables or a remote and other than a broken hinge on back/no lens caps, looks to be in ok condition.
I tried to power it up when i got home to see if it worked, but I'm getting no light from tubes. looks like i am getting green lights on led, the orange coinc and a red light on hold down EHT are all lit up. I had a dvd player plugged directly in back via s-video. I read you need to swap inputs on remote but since i don't have one not sure what else i can do.
Would it be worth trying to fix?

You have a lack of deflection (red light), which is why the EHT holddown light is on.
Read all of this:

Your power supply, deflection, or RGB input board could all be bad (one of those three) and any one will cause the SF light to be on. I can repair and test all of those boards. Where are you located?

Thanks for the reply, i am located in South Carolina USA. Is it worth putting money into it or is better to sink it into a working PJ instead? Just off hand with the issues it has what would it cost to repair(ballpark). I know there could be more.

Pull the lenses off and post a pix of the tube faces. It's a great little set, could be repaired for as low as $100 or so. If the tubes are shot, then I wouldn't do it, but I'd buy a couple of parts out of the set if you want to scrap it.

Not sure exactly how to remove the lenses if you could advise best way would be great. Do i have to remove that top board? . Also I looked under top board on red tube( It seemed lose compared to others) and looks like the glass section just above the magnet area is broken on the red tube and the bottom of it is loose doesnt seem attached in any way. and other 2 are fine. Could this be a big problem? maybe this is why it was donated.

Got pics of wear, also i tried to get close up on the red tube wear. Red tube seemed to have black specs on it.

It's marginal to repair. I've got red tubes at $50 in good shape, but the G and B have wear as well. The red tube might cure the scan fail and HV shutdown as well, but you won't know until you try it. THe red tube should be changed first before you do anything else.

I might go ahead and try to get the red tube from you and swap it as you suggested, but just wondering how difficult it will be to swap out since this is the first PJ i have ever had.
also the back half of the broken tube is sitting on the board below it( looks like the metal bracket tube connects to. Could that have damaged board? If you need a pic let me know. thanks for the help again.

can`t he just connect the red tube but without hv attached to it to see if the pj fires up?

Actually that's true Disconnect the CRT socket off the tube in the back, disconnect the HV lead going to the HV splitter, and the G and B tubes should fire up.

I took the advice mentioned above and unplugged the HV line that went to the red tube, but forgot to remove the socket section so it sparked a bit when i powered it up woops.
After i removed the socket section the green tube lit up and there were no red lights on led's. I checked the blue tube but didn't see any light coming out of it, tho i thought i saw what looked like blue "snow" on the tube before i reattached lens.
Is there anything else i need to check? Hopefully this is a good sign, thanks.

Ok, so far so good. The scan fail cleared when the tube was disconnected. Without an input signal, the Barco menu only comes up on the R and G tubes, so chances are your blue tube is fine. Change the red tube, and you should have a working set.

Sounds good thanks for all the help, if you could pm me with the details I'll pick one up from you. Also this unit came with no remote at all, so if you have any advice on another way to control it would be great.
Judging from the old pics you said the blue and green were worn as well, will they last much longer and if not do you have any in stock?
