Going to re-power this PC and looking for suggestions. This PC is 8+ years old as is it's HDD. I was simply going to clone this HDD as a precaution and it got me thinking Wink

I just realized you are in Green Harbor. I was just up there in the RI/MA area (and actually used the 495/95 junction). I could have visited.

what is your budget? "state of the art" would mean something like 5000 usd or more.

Smart thing would be a i2500k processor and asrock P67 mobo..8-16gb of ddr3 and a geforce 570 card. xfx 550w power.

but anything you can buy in a shop today is light years ahead of "8 years old pc" so how much power do you REALLY need..?

Yeah, this is an open ended question. I have an Athlon II X3, Biostar mobo, 240 Geforce that I am about to sell because I upgraded. Is my new machine faster? Yes, but the old one was more than adequate and worked really well for day to day computing.

If it was more than adequate why did you upgrade?

Fair question and the truth is I just wanted the fastest CPU out there to play with. I ended up getting the I5-2500k (I know it isn't the fastest) deal from Microcenter along with a mobo. Also, I do want to start gaming some more and at some point I will use the lightening fast Intel transcoding.
