A couple of weeks ago I changed out the red crt and the picture was looking really nice until last night. All of a sudden the red started acting getting brighter and dimmer by itself and then I heard a pretty loud snap and now everything is dark with no high voltage. However, all the lights on the SMPS are normal green except for the red one which is out. I have disconnected the red crt neck board and red crt high voltage so that crt should not be a factor at this point.

I have also swapped the out the quad, splitter, and EHT, from a spare 808 I have. But nothing seems to help.

Does anyone have any ideas? This has me stumped.

Swapping out the 808 stuff may not solve the problem if the 12XX uses later revision parts. What are the part numbers of the original EHT and quad and also the 808 EHT and quad??

Thank you for answering my post km. The EHT's are exactly the same but the quads are not. The quad of the 12xx was part number R90000898 and I can not see a part number on the 808. But physically the bolts are different although the case itself is the same.

I was thinking the 808 would atleast run the projector long enough to let me know something but maybe it won't work at all. Maybe someone who does know might give some advi\ce here.

As I understand the quad and EHT are supposed to be a matched set.

Check this article out. The last page has a table with what will work and will not.

After looking at the table I don't think I have a problem with too new of EHT or guad but it is still unclear as to whether an 808 quad can be used in a 12xx chassis. I am wondering if this is allowed.

Yes it is. The HV is really simple in a Barco. 3 parts, quad, splitter and EHT board. Best bet is to send me your quad(s) and EHT board(s) for testing. If they check OK, then I'll send back a splitter.

Just a follow up. I finally got the high voltage but in the process I think I blew out about 3 EHT cards. And not only that but the original quad and neck card are bad too.

What I think originally took place is that the red neck board failed which took out the quad which then took out the EHT. Had I not pulled both a good EHT and quad from a spare 808 I would still be fighting this problem I think.

But thank goodness my 1209 is old enough to be able to use 808 quads and EHTs. I seem to have accumulated a whole lot of 808 junk but not so much 12xx junk. Thats not so good when you have a 12xx projector on the ceiling.

I appreciate all the help.

Just for the record you can run old 808 quads as long as you have an old EHT board in a newer Barco 1209s as long as you change a jumper on the "motherboard" of the projector or mod the OLD EHT board by jumping a few of the connections with solder. I know because my Runco 1100 (late model Barco 1209s--more or less) as been running for two years now on a circa 1996 Barco 808 quad and EHT board.

If you're using a new quad, 762833 or 762717 with the old style EHT board, you'll nuke them every time. An old quad will work with a new or old EHT board. THe splitters can be of any vintage, it doesn't matter.
