Hello,

today I was offered theses oooold machines. I would not mention them here but I have never seen such tubes.
Please read the description, as I had no camera with me:

Anyone familiar with that system of the tubes?

There's a Kloss guy here on the forum. Maybe he'll see this and pipe in.

Hi,
I've seen those many years ago. It's kinda indirect projection. The electron beam hits a target plate which is coated with phosphor. The emitted light is thrown back into the tube where a reflector directs it out to the faceplate and optics. This is called a Schmidt design. I think Wikipedia has more. Look up the article "CRT Projector"...

Without even looking at the images, the name Kloss and weird tubes leads me to say Novatron. These are Advent/Kloss' internalized/enclosed 'Schmidt Optik' Tubes. Classic design of relatively small tube and larger parabolic mirror to get more light out of the tube size. Only Kloss managed to integrate the two. This was the LightGuide crt: http://books.google.nl/books?id=j4j-S2SuIBoC&pg=PA666&lpg=PA666&dq=advent+LightGuide+crt&source=bl&ots=O9jCmvuhlU&sig=K826mTzM1GSYbwlA1V5-lOS-OVI&hl=nl&ei=jjweTseVOoXsOf_HtaID&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&sqi=2&ved=0CDIQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q&f=false .

Of course Novatron is now part of VDC.

Philips made projectiontubes for use in the first enclosed rearprojection TVs available in the US in the 1930s.

A clear image of the later Saba Schauinsland Telerama ('49-'62) Schmidt assembly http://www.technikum29.de/en/devices/saba-telerama.shtm.

And of course there was the experimental RCA unit using larger overdriven RGB CRTs from 1949 http://archive2.archive2.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=15808253#post15808253.

Hi,

well...

- If old is special then: Yes!
- If it's about value for use: No!

BTW: We should get in touch as I'm in your area! I do have some items that you might find interesting (ever heard of Grundig Cinema 9000?) and my mother language is German.

PM me if you're interested...

Yes, old is special, especially if the old is special. (Live is hard,) I can not adopt anything old only because it has CRTs Sad .
But sth. like these weird tubes/machines might become a grave in my basement. Well, the seller has two machines and a set of tubes. He wants the room cleared within the next two years, but he might believe that there is a little fortune to make out of these CRTs. I will see if I can show him reality within the next weeks.....

Wonderful coffeetable;-). Though there was also a solid wood pop-up rear-projection TV set.

Actually the tubes were US made, but the boards were made in Germany by ITT, that also marketed these later Kloss projectors under its own name. The portable unit with the flap-up mirror is the most special of the ITTCinevisions.
