TV/Projector: All of them!

Posted: Wed Jun 22, 2011 11:33 pm    Post subject: A CRT TV with HDMI???????

So I saw something today that I've never seen before. A Toshiba 16:9 CRT consumer TV with an HDMI connector on the back! I'll pick it up tomorrow. I turned it on, it looks like the CRT is in fantastic shape, a nice B/W snow that's in focus.

I know Sony made some broadcast monitors in 16:9, I didn't know they made consumer TVs in widescreen, esp. with an HDMI connector on it!

If anyone wants this that's within driving distance, come and get it. I was thinking of putting it on the test bench, but it's too big.

My mother had one of them. Bought it new around 2000 I think and gave it away around 05 when she bought a flat panel. Not a bad tv.

The last few sony Direct View CRTs such as the one we have, the KD-34XBR970 (which many dispute it actually being an XBR due to the lack of the SFP tube) has an HDMI connector on the back, its a nice TV thats for sure, the KD-34XBR960 would have been the one to get though!

Curt, 16:9 CRTs are pretty common in the later years of their sale, Panasonic had the GAOO range here in about 94 up til the TAU GIGA took over, Philips had a few different models, ive got a Pixel Plus here in storage, LG had a few different models as well in the CRT 16:9 format.

I may have to go looking for one of these, as I have been wanting a direct view CRT.

I bought a Philips 30" 16:9 CRT tube TV from the Philips online outlet website, refurbished for about $250 with free shipping, probably 6 or 7 years ago, and it still works flawlessly and looks awesome. It has one HDMI input and 2 component video inputs. I did a full calibration on it of course, and the convergence is still spot on. At the time, this TV sold for something like $1400 new. I've used it as my bedroom TV ever since, and I can't foresee replacing it unless it dies.

I bought one of the last Sony 34XBR960 TV's from Fry's for less than $1000 new in the box. Still using it as my primary FIOS fed HDTV. 1080i = amazing, SD sucks, which is why I still keep the my 15 year old 32XBR100 (XBR squared) TV around. This set is widely considered the best SD consumer TV ever made. It'll be a sad day when I have to give up my direct view CRT's.

Well that sucks, I went back today for it, and one of the staff had packaged it up and off to the processing plant it went. Oh well, it's not like I really needed another TV around here.Smile

I've got a Sony 76cm (30") widescreen CRT as my main TV. Bought it on ebay over a year ago for about $200.

Its only got SCART inputs though.

Sh** Curt, this is rediculously unjust for a Toshiba CRT, it wouldve been a damn fine rig...

This is a good thing, cause that is RGB with combined SYNC. You should be able to run all kinds of crystal clear sh** on that.

Make one up yourself, just go to Jaycar and by the bare plug. It wont be RGB-HV, itll be RGB-S, the SYNC will be combined, instead of separated between H and V.

Here is the pinout for the SCART plug:

I have a Samsung Curt, but mine is a 4x3 1080i . Its the slim fit tube less than 24" for the entire tv.

I think it was 449 for this 27" model .
