Any splitter will work in any set, old or new style HV section, it doesn't matter. Forward and backward compatible,
An old style quadrupler will work in a new style set, regardless of EHT board. A new style quad will NOT work with the old style EHT board. It will smoke the board almost always.
You can interchange old and new style EHT boards, but a jumper wire must be added as described above. Again though, if you put an old EHT board into a set with a new quadrupler, it will blow up. |
Hey Curt we can make a simple table
Please correct and add the informations (or edit my post if you want).
| Code: |
new frame set= new quad + new EHT + any splitter (OK)
new frame set= old quad + new EHT + any splitter (OK)
new frame set= old quad + old EHT + any splitter (JUMPER)
new frame set= new quad + old EHT + any splitter (NEVER)
old frame set= new quad + new EHT + any splitter (JUMPER)
old frame set= old quad + new EHT + any splitter (JUMPER)
old frame set= old quad + old EHT + any splitter (OK)
old frame set= new quad + old EHT + any splitter (NEVER) |
|
In your table you have "new frame set= old quad+new EHT + any splitter (OK)" So new EHT works with old quad aren't the new quad and new EHT required as per Barco bulletin??

I never used an old quad+new eht in a new frame set.
I used an old quad+old eht in a new frame set but with a jumper.
Curt said that old quad works in a new set regardless eht.

The application of heat shrink tubing will help ensure that you're properly protecting whatever components you are putting together and that you are well prepared in harnessing those same components from harm.
The purpose of heat shrink tubing is to also guard wires and small parts from damage.

I take this discussion because I have the same issue of this topic.
So this morning I pulled EHT board from my Runco DTV 1100.
Remember: in my Runco the quad was swapped with another old style.
The EHT board (R762716 new style) and the splitter (R762518 new style) matched with serial chassis, so the frame should be new style.
PLEASE ATTENTION
The string of the table above that interest me is ...
| Code: | | new frame set= old quad + new EHT + any splitter (OK) |
I noticed that the EHT board have a Jumper (no factory) that cover all pins from third to sixth (from right to left seeing the back of the board).
I think that this modify makes the pinout of the new style EHT board compatible with the old.
SO I DON'T KNOW IF THE STRING ...
| Code: | | new frame set= old quad + new EHT + any splitter (OK) |
... CAN WORK OR COULD CAUSE DAMAGES!!!
I think no because I think that the jumper of my new EHT is useless.
The jumper in EHT should make in new frame, old quad, OLD EHT, any splitter ... like table
| Code: | | new frame set= old quad + old EHT + any splitter (JUMPER) |
But be careful!

As I understand new quad does not work with old EHT.

Yes is the only case in which mixing the HV components may cause a damage.
However ...
Today I've modify an old style EHT making a jumper as described in my previous post.
I've swapped they in my Runco.
| Code: | | new frame set= old quad + old EHT + any splitter (JUMPER) |
And ..... stop noise from EHT in bright image, totally quiet!!!!!!
I think that this noise is the "oscillations" described in service bulletin when an old quad fits in new frame/new eht set.

From my experience, the only combination that won't work is:
Old EHT + New Quad + any splitter.
If the main MOSFET on the EHT board doesn't short out completely, blowing the fuse, then it can oscillate, which can show noise in the image. I have not seen this noise with any other combination, but I will check the next time I have a barco on the bench.
You may simply have had a noisy internally arcing quadrupler perhaps?

I do not know but the noise disappeared completely with the combination suggested by the Barco's New EHT Service Bulletin.
In fact, if we insert the jumper in the old EHT we do as if the motherboard was the old type.
In the bulletin is written that the following combination works without problems.
| Code: | | old frame set + old quad + old EHT + new splitter (OK is the same) |
