I know this is a Pioneer rear projection T.V. but this forum is where the TRUE knowledge lies!!!!!! The T.V. is about 10 years old and my buddy said he just turned on the T.V. and this is what it looked like. It's like this on the top and bottom 1/4 of the screen but the middle looks fine he said. I haven't been over there yet to see if the controls are responsive or not but I thought I would post here first.
Convergence board???
Or did a 7, 5, or 3 year old get ahold of the remote and banged on the keys like Elton John on the piano?!
Thanks for the input!!

More like Elton John banged... never mind.
Yes, convergence chip failure. STK whatever they are, Mac probably has the chip number, part number and location memorized.

That set can also benefit greatly from a good cleaning. The optics are all dirty and the coolant in in the lens/CRT assembly is murky and needs changing.
This is an afternoon's project but once you do it, you'll be really impressed at how much better the picture will look.
I think that the convergence just needs to be redone, too.

He's supposed to shoot me the model number so that maybe you guys can guide me to the proper chip. As long as we isolate the chip, can anyone with soldering skills remove the old and set the new?? Or does it need to flashed or something like that?
Also, would this type of chip be available in the St. Louis, MO. area? He has a graduation party at his house on Sunday and I was going to try to help him out tomorrow. If it's something that is going to have to be ordered, then that's obviously not going to happen before then and he will have to make other arrangements.
Thanks!

It probably has 392-110 chips or if its been worked on by Pioneer then maybe 392-180's. Or it can be upgraded to 394-160's. Get the model number and I can probably check for sure.
You "HAVE" to make sure the replacements are original Sanyos.
Also sometimes when these chips blow they take out resistors and fuses along the way.
