Chceck inside the lid for the connector changes. There's 12 in total. 6 pairs on the deflection board right under the top cover, three yellow/brown and three blue/red connectors. Pull those out, turn them around and plug them back in. the inside of the lid should show the corect orientation for the convergence plugs that are under the deflection board. The deflection board flips up once you undo 2-4 screws, depending on how many are left. Smile

What are you trying to connect to the projector?

also, this will aid in the setup:

http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTSetupGuide.shtm

I wrote that for the NEC XG, a model higher thqan the Xtra, but most controls are the same.

Welcome to CRTing, feel free to throw questions out here. We won't bite. Usually. Smile

When you're doing the setup, make sure you do a signal entry first, and run the computer on the resolution you want while doing the setup. These data grade sets all lock to a memory location based on the input resolution. the NEC should lock perfectly to any resolution around 800 X 600 to about 1024 X 768. It won't do 1080p, but with a good Pc, you shoud be good to go. There's lots of computer guys here that can assist with hardware selection if you go that way.

Cheers!

Just an addition. My 6PG xtra locks to 1080p, the picture is not perfect, but watchable, however 1080i (eg. at 96Hz) looks far better.

These are not indications of a weak blue.

Careful about that scan rate. Not that you're going to go over 1080p, but the set is not supposed to lock to that, and you blow your deflection board if you scan too high..

I don't use my pj in 1080p at all, just tested. Anyway 1080p is around 68kHz scanrate, and 6PG xtra locks to 69kHz. Other than that the only difference on the deflection board between 6 and 9PG xtra is the type of the hybrid ic (FVA-FVB) which determines the maximum scanrate. I've converted a 6PG xtra def. board to a 9PG xtra just by changing the hybrid ic, and it is not sending the error message over 69KHz anymore, and of course locks too, and it is working fine since then.

If you don't have a signal input to the projector, that's quite possible, as the color balance will be all over the map. If it's doing it with a registered input signal, try going into the 'color balance' menu, as that will reset the gains of all the tubes. Chances are the problem will go away.

But otherwise the blue shows the right image, I mean balck levels and white levels are ok with blue? Otherwise it looks like your blue neck board went wrong.
