Not sure if anyone is interested, but with an abundance of spare parts and some free time I have manged to get a e8510 (gp3000) tube working in a 6pg extra. I've only done very limited testing but, the G2 is ok, focus looks decent and geometry is adjustable. If anyone is interested I will update my progress as I go along.

Oh, in that case I won't tell anyone about how it works near perfect (no astig need 36.5mm focus yokes) I've only tested the green tube so far, but I have all alignment and focus controls working, and these tubes appear very sharp. Hopefully I'll have time to rewire/mod the neck-boards for blue/red tubes and post up some screens of it all converged. If I manage to get it working 100% in the PG extra, I will try the same for an XG.

I do have at least one set of pristine e8510 tubes here |
I've never seen a gp3000 with worn out tubes, I wonder why

So what about this stuff, did you manage all three tubes to work? What about sharpness and brightness?

One thing sure: the E8510 has the thick neck as the most of other tubes out there.
Once I had one green E8510, but I threw it out, because it had a "No input" burn in, however it was pristine otherwise, now thinking back it could've worked in 16:9

Ok, so now that thick necks are in, whats to stop the use of P19s in an XTRA or XG?

Not a big deal, the PG10's tubes also have thick neck, also we discussed this before (check)
So in a PG10 chassis it could work, but I don't have a PG10 laying around nor good P19 tubes, otherwise I'd happly play with them, also generously offer my PG xtra for this experiment
Another thing: everyone says that E8505 tubes are not compatible with PG xtra, however I found one thread where Mark_A_W states he managed to work E8505 red and blue tubes in a PG xtra, but he also said the green doesn't work, but did not explain WHY?
AFAIK tubes are not that hard to use:
-they need a proper G2 setting (which can be done with the "do not touch" pots )
-and proper cathode voltage I think this also can be tweaked.
-do not exceed the maximal anode voltage (rarely a problem)
The harder nut is connecting the coils/yokes.
Anyway I don't see much point in tweaking a PG xtra to be a 9" machine, because probably it won't exceed the ready made 9" EM machines, with XG mod it worth a bit longer thinking, but in that case the problem is the constructional difference between the PG and XG chassis, so it would be an extreme machine work just for catching the top three.

Another interesting thing that Sony G90s are famous for they mighty unrepairable YA board failure, I haven't heard any G70 transplantation to G90 either, G70s are seem to be more reliable, and the performance gap is thin -at least on paper.
