I have an old PG in my bedroom that I have used for years - Probably has a million hours on it. When I just went to start it up, it came on, displayed a properly converged image for a couple of seconds and then shut down with an F8 failure code.

F8 is listed as a convergence issue, but I question whether it is the convergence drive, because for this two seconds, the image is AOK.

Any ideas where to look?

Thanks,
Bob

Disconnect the convergence board and see if the F8 goes away. If so, the board is probably bad, but... it could be that the sensing circuit for the convergence shutdown is bad. It's also on that board. Assuming that you don't value the set too much at this point, and can risk smoking it, there's a way to bypass the sensing circuit.. but bypassing that shutdown could cause meltdown of the power supply/convergence board if it's bad.

I can repair the C board for $125 incl return shipping..
