Guys!
I am seeing this format as inputs and outputs on switchers and processors and I have read about mods to extract HD SDI from BluRay players. What other devices can be HD SDI sources?
.

Not quite sure that HD SDI is any better than HDMI ? It does travel further with any given gauge of cable though...

Here's a little chart for you. Mostly only an advantage if your device does not have HDMI, like Tom said.
Standards
Standard Name Bitrates Example Video Formats
SMPTE 259M SD-SDI 270 Mbit/s, 360 Mbit/s, 143 Mbit/s, and 177 Mbit/s 480i, 576i
SMPTE 344M ED-SDI 540 Mbit/s 480p, 576p
SMPTE 292M HD-SDI 1.485 Gbit/s, and 1.485/1.001 Gbit/s 720p, 1080i
SMPTE 372M Dual Link HD-SDI 2.970 Gbit/s, and 2.970/1.001 Gbit/s 1080p
SMPTE 424M 3G-SDI 2.970 Gbit/s, and 2.970/1.001 Gbit/s 1080p

Tim, unless there is something I have missed, the only program sources that have been modded with HD-SDI outputs are some Bluray players and of course Hd-DVD.
The advantages to it are:
1 - No need for a device such as Moome as HDCP is not an issue.
2 - It is a single coax (Rg-59 equivalent is fine) and can run great distances and uses robust BNC connectors.
Disadvantages are:
1 - In single configuration (all the BD player mods) you are limited to 1080i or 1080P@24. You need dual for higher bandwidth.
2 - No audio embedded.
If my memory serves correctly, the HD-SDI input module that was designed and used by Reference Imaging was restricted to 1080i, and my guess is that the D/A converters available then were not nearly as good as those in use today.
While they are really not practical today, I use my OPPO with HD-SDI into my DVDO VP50Pro and like it only because it eliminates the need for a whole bunch of handshakes with my blend setup. I was afraid that by the time everything in my signal chain got aquainted with each other, the movie would be over!
Moome deserves a Nobel award for his convenient solutions.

VTRs, Solid State player/recorders, PCs, Camera's, all use this standard interface. Modded DVB-S2 HD and DVB-T Set-tops and Blu-ray players/HDD recorders are available from vendors like Frontniche.
