Ok does any one know of any prepros with 2 sets of 7.1 analog inputs or 7.1 and 5.1 analog inputs.

I want to run a SACD player and 7.1 DTS MA using all analog.

The only thing I have found new so far is a Parasound P-7. Or used Bel Canto pre 6, which is nearly hens teeth.

Used is fine in fact preferred I just cant seem to find what I am looking for.

I cant stand this HDMI handshake crap I am having to endure using a Onkyo PR-SC885p I just picked up.

I still have my Arcam AV-9 with 7.1 analog and if thee was even a switch for the 7.1 analog I would consider that.

Any ideas?

The only other Pre-Pro I have ever seen with two 7.1 inputs back a few years ago was a unit made by Cary Audio and I believe it was called a "Cinema 7"(I am not 100% sure of that model name). Probably best to check their website or call them. Unfortunately, given the rather esoteric nature of their products, this one may be even more difficult to find.

There is a switcher but they are pricey. Of course if you wanted to upgrade your receiver in the future you would still have switching.

You could always get 3 cheap-o push button type component or composite video switchers and use 8 of the inputs and outputs (3-3-2 for each unit respectively). It wouldn't be the prettiest concoction but it would be cheap and it would work and a heck of a lot easier than switching wires.

Really when it comes right down to it, you only listen to one device at a time and these are preamp level signals, so you could probably just get 8 of those Y connectors with the RCA ends and connect both devices to your prepro at the same time.

Even if you happened to turn both on at the same time you would probably only hear both devices playing.

Worst case would be a loop hum which clipping a gnd would probably fix.

The trouble is, one of these things will run you in the $700-800 range, not really sure if its worth it.

How about an old extron RGBHVA 8x4 matrix switch? That'd give you 7 of the 8 channels for each input and would enable easy wiring. They go for $70 or so, I think. And you could use the extras for something else, I'm sure...

Or, I suppose (2) 3P4T rotaries <below>, a metal panel, and 24 panel mount RCA plugs would get the job done for ~$100 with only two switches and three hours of time. You could at panel mount it in your rack...

I have 5.1 SACD, AC-3 from my LD FM demodulator, and the other signals from my pre-pro all getting switched with a crappy manual push button selector before going into my amp+sub. The unit switches component video, composite, and stereo audio all at once (yep, all 6) in a 3x1 box. It works well for $30, but the cabling is a PITA.

I know AMX made a 16x1 AV (L,R,composite) switch that sells on ebay for $30 or so. I would imagine some re-purposeing of all those internal relays could make a workable solution surprisingly easily.

that's my brain dump...happy rummaging!

From the website:
"Passive Switching of Analog Signals

By using relays to route audio signals, as opposed to active analog switching ICs, we are able to achieve the same quality of signal pass through, that would be achieved by manually swapping 6 cables each time you switched between HD-DVD, Blu-ray, SACD and DVD-A players...."

Maybe I am underestimating the problem, but I can't see what is so difficult in this.
Buy 24 RCA connectors and 8 relays the only thing you need is driving for the relays depending on the way of switching (RC or manually etc..)
