Anyone know what would cause the width to shrink by aprox .5" on both sides towards center for a split second every 2-3 seconds? While not really perceivable while watching film, it drives me nuts when I notice it.

Horz deflection or geometry first come to mind.

Put up a full grid pattern and see if it does it there and if so does the convergence change at all?

It does it on the grid pattern, convergence doesn't change. I've already swapped pretty much every card in the cage with the exception of the system board (no working spare). I think it started doing it after I had maxed the contrast while doing the electronic focus.( I run b65/c75 under normal operation)

not yet, but it would seem to be the next logical thing to try.( I have a spare set)

Thanks for the help.

Never mind, that would probably cause the whole image to move.

How much blanking are you using? If you blank the edges that half inch does it stop? Then if it stopped try to increase the amplitude to refill the screen, does it stop?

What resolution are you running?

25% on the right and 75% on the left, (the tubes are worn off center) Changing the blanking to 100% or to 0% doesn't seem to have any effect, amplitude is -40% height and +19% width. resolution is 720p @ 96hz. not sure if its related, but at 1080p @60hz I get terrible streaking.

I think I'm going to try using a different pc.. I don't trust the ati pos in this pc.

yup, turns out the high-end 1 1/2 year old ati 4890hd was the problem, not the 15 year old projector.

You know, its kinda odd that the internal test grid did it also.

But it just goes to show, always rule out the source as the problem.
