I got some power cables that had ferrite interference chokes on them. The cables are shielded, so I guess the reason for the chokes that someone put on them.
Your thoughts are welcome as I wonder if they make any difference.

I have used them in the past for EMI reduction in the design of satellite receivers. They can be somewhat effective on the outside of a cable, but are much more effective when you strip the cable and can loop the loose wires through it a couple of times.
Generally speaking they are a crutch used to compensate for someone who did not properly account for EMI in the original design.

Yep, that's what I am seeing on web sites; mainly marketed and used for coax cable stuff.
Anybody have any idea how the effectiveness of them could be measured?

Short of using a spectrum analyzer along with a LISN (for conducted emissions) or the appropriate antenna (for radiated emission) to measure the actual application, not really.
But then who needs measurements, just put it on and use the audiophile method of claiming there is now an openness or some other wonderful change that you never heard before

Funny; as I was doing some fan mods on this G90, it seems that Sony decided to use the chokes as well.
