Hey!

Back in the day, I bought just the three-gun sensor for the Philips Color Analyzer.

I already had the computer interface for the single-suction-cup unit, but they didn't tell me until AFTER I purchased it that it would not work. I should've made all sorts of noise at the time, but I'm not one for confrontation...and BACK THEN $3k wasn't such a big deal to me...although oddly spending another $2k on the fix was too much. Me and my tight-ass ethics.

So, I've carried it around for years, imagining that I'd take the time to hack it and make it useful to me. Someday, right?!

The discussion about lens caps reminded me, because I have all the various diameter cups.

Anyone interested in a little hacking to strip off the identification code to make the triple one work with the computer interface? It should not be that difficult...or if anyone knows somebody who used to work for the now-defunct Philips instrumentation division who might divulge this information, now that is a decade out-of-competition.

I'm pretty sure the software is Basic or an early C...but it might have to be decompiled first.

Cheers,
John
Detroit

I've seen this before. Prehaps it was you that posted it way back in the AVS days. This is the analyzer that snaps onto the front of each lens and measures the output of each tube assembly?
Curious, even IF you somehow get it to work, how will you calibrate it to make it usefull?

Chip,

Yeah, I might've mentioned it the last time I opened that case, LOL. I ignored it for a long time since it pissed me off so much that they sold it to me without telling me I needed the hand-held readout, which I couldn't imagine being the ONLY way to use it.

It DOES only measure relative levels of the three guns, and for some reason could not calculate the correlated values in the CIE display for easy calibration...so yeah, I really don't know what the f*%# I'd use it for. I'm in a nostalgic mood these days, and thought it'd be, well, fun.

I'm having boatloads of FUN again with all this gear that I've had in storage all these years, since the NEW stuff just pisses me off too much.

I fantasize being able to monitor the light output of an indoor garden or some odd thing...but I can do that now with the single-cup unit. I'm SURE I'll find some use for these expensive light/voltage convertors...

Cheers and thanks for playing along with my fantasy world.

Sincerely,
John
Detroit

P.S.: Moto, where are you located?! Couple of bucks?! When I opened the case, I realized I have TWO sensor-units, with cups in every size range. Biggest problem with these is most projectors always showed their menus when calibrating grayscale and these couldn't be discriminating...with the single cup you could at least move it away from the menu on-screen!
