I would love to see a mix of the XG and G90 firmware blended together for the ultimate CRT projector now that would be the SHITE!!!!!!
Oh, and I'm now down to only two G90's. Art's projector leaves here this Saturday for Japan!
As far as availability though there is a certain Henry that has a WHOLE BUNCH OF G90's NOS that could be commendeared if needed.

That would be a hot setup...Hell a 9" XG would suit me with maybe a tricked up GUI, with G90 LC housings and Optics....The build quality of a Barco is superb, I could really care less as long as it worked.
Might as well build in a Radiance too with Craig's 3D.

I'm with you on that...except the Cine9 that I adore from them was the most refined version of their 909/1209 chassis group, it was a MONSTER though. Damn thing BENT laws of physics, I tell ya!
But of all of 'em, you could drop an Electrohome off the ceiling and it would likely just bounce then look at you with a smile and say, "Please sir, may I have another?"
The Sony is by far the most elegant of all of 'em.
I didn't get the NEC running just yet, but am another night closer...and simpy cannot wait. I haven't been this excited over a piece of equipment since I got that Music Hall turntable spinning in the old a/d/s/ system upstairs...and THAT was only a month or so ago.
Cheers
P.S.: anyone been in touch with that guy with the New Old Stock of G90s recently?!

Got contact information on him?
I want to GIVE HIM some free advertising in my new e-zine.
Anyone still holding the torch for CRT will have a special section, and as long as I can afford the space...will get whatever help we can give.
Obviously, Curt is at the TOP of that list, heh.
Cheers,
John

The design of the CRT was interrupted more than 15 years ago, yet today a 9'is better than the last Sony and JVC projectors, both for the quality of the colors to details and black. Today, if a company like Barco, design a new CRT had an awesome quality. The path of the signal has always been analog with all the problems related to bandwidth and noise. Now think to be able to manage machine all in digital, with modern components and integrate, for example, a 400 MHz DAC like the one that all video cards, directly on the neck of a tube 10''16:9. It would be possible to display images 4k. Cine 9 is credited to 3200x2560 with a bandwidth of 180MHz. By removing the management of the analog inputs will reduce the number of cards, you will improve the image stability because the sync and framerate are generated directly from the processor inside the projector. Calibration devices existed, they could integrate and automate with an acceptable cost.
You could design new lenses for more detailed pictures...
Ok now the dream is over, my 9'' is waiting
bye

Six or seven years ago, I suppose it could have been considered "holding the torch for CRT" (though I'd call it more along the lines of taking a gamble to make some bucks being the only game in town)... At this point though, they're just stuck with a lot of money invested in something with rapidly declining value. I'd LOVE to know what FH paid for their G90's.

I could probably get you his info. Give me a PM.
I bought a G90 off of Roger Galvin last summer. Roger has been calibrating G90s since the beginning. He told me pjs is just a sideline business for Henry. The G90s have been moving over in China, where they are still highly valued.

Maybe they will clone it and sell them on Chinese e-Bay for $5K.

Those aren't hard to find, at all. Just call VDC and order one. Yep, another of VDC's CRT acquisitions. E&S moved on to LASER Grating Light Valve projectors.
The VDC High Res. tubes were available in 8", but were just as expensive as the same performance regular 9" CRTs, so they really didn't sell any. In that case you might as well revive that 'too late, we didn't manage to get second round financing', CRTs with higher res, higher output faceplates based on some old principle, can't track it anymore, but there used to be some threads over at AVS.
As for the $6000 to manufacturer lenses, well we are still talking about 20 centimeter diameter lenses, glass has only gotten cheaper by reduced size.
Average viewers, average broadcasts (broadcast quality has been a thing of the past as soon as they got that knob/dial with the swicth to digital), viewed from too far away, won't notice, well why then this pursuit, if that is your target, they are well served with a 32" LCD.
CRTs also offer limited colors.
Besides they aren't flat or cute petites, so your market will be limited to singles who don't live with their moms.
