|
|
Hi Folks. We've got an NEC 9PG in our theater. We use a macro on the remote to start everything, which also mutes the projector picture after it is powered up and running so nothing shows on the drapes. However, as soon as a video signal is received from the video player through the HD Fury III (like inserting a disc), the 9PG automatically un-mutes. This doesn't look good with it showing on the drapes before they're opened. Does anyone know of a way to set the 9PG so the picture has to be manually un-muted before the picture can be seen?
Thanks,
--Kimberly

Hi,
There is a pin on the "remote" plug on the front panel which could be used to picture mute, this input is not triggered like the remote button, but it is level sensitive, so the picture will be muted until this input is low, I think you should deal with this.
for more information: http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/NEC6PGXtra_9PGXtra_Install_User.pdf -page 14-15, albeit this is for pg xtra, but I'm sure it works the same as the plain PG

Actually, we don't want the picture to mute or un-mute automatically in any way, shape or form. When it is muted from the remote, as long as the power is on, we want it to stay permanently muted until we manually un-mute it from the remote.

The NECs automatically releases the pic mute if the scanning frequency changes. You want to avoid this, right?
a.) do a hard wired remote as I suggested just for pic muting (it don't have to be automatic) -you need a 15pin d-sub male connector, a 2 wire cable and a switch. When pin 10 and 14 switched to pin 15 the picture will be muted, otherwise not, that's all. Also you can add power on/off function to this simple hard wired remote.
b.) keep your HD fury in power off until the movie just starts (I don't know if it has any welcome screen)
c.) keep your projector in power off until the movie starts
I think these are the options you can do.

The projector is hanging from the theater ceiling with all of the video equipment in another room, and it is a CRT projector that needs to warm up. We'll make do.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

The warm up in not necessary for daily use, for making adjustments it is a different case. If you have some convergence drifting during warm up period, then it's time for recapping the machine.

9PG manual specs say 20 minutes warm-up, though we barely run 5. Convergence barely noticeable in the first 10 minutes, and appears solidly in-line after about 18-20 minutes.
