I got my XG 75 up and running again after not using it for about a year. I forgot how nice it could look.
I think my system board is going though. After my first attempt to set it up again, I came home and found it would not respond the remote or power button at the back. I think I got it back up after cutting power to it for a bit but it had the scrambled menu and all the inputs were gone. Now the menu is fine but it comes out of all three tubes and shows white. So its readable but something is obviously gone/going.
What does a system board go for nowadays?
While I'm totaling costs to revive this thing, the red tube has ~3K hours and is visibly less sharp than the blue/green. Would hours cause it to lose sharpness? What would a tube go for?
Thanks for any input

No, hours on an EM focusing set do not kill sharpness. You might have a bad focus or astig board, but most likely it needs a good setup.
Figure on $200 or so to either repair or replace your system board. I do have stock.

Thanks Curt.
When you say the red needs a good setup, are you talking about something more than basic optical/electronic focus? I can get a nice sharp H test pattern with the other tubes but the red will not regardless of now much I tweak the optical/e-focus.

Have you tweaked the focus pots on the board 2 back from the system board? Can you null out the red focus with those pots, ie get to a spot on the trimpot where the red focus is OK, and gets worse on either side? Switch to the dot pattern and run through the focus pot. Are the dots round when they defocus, or do the go into a line or an oval?

About your menus showing up white, you might try checking the setting under adjust->option->menu mode->message color. I believe it defaults to color mode, and clearing the system memory may have done that.
I leave mine in color usually, but I know there is a setting for green only.
I'm just getting used to adjusting my XG75, but the focus and astigmatism were way off when I got mine, and the menu adjustments got them pretty perfect.
Also, if you set adjust->option->setting mode->focus edge mode to separate, you have better control over individual tube focus.
