The subs were very impressive...but probably not as impressive as the CRT image. It was cheating but playing the demo clip for Cars was just breathtaking. It helps that SC's theater is absolutely black when lights are out. I loved it!

We had a great time at the meet and I met a lot of great people and saw some friends from a past meet. I only showed up later to see the last two theaters but it was well worth it...

Well...partially because I won an Oppo BDP-93 as a door prize!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Thumbs Up

I had been contemplating the large expense and wasn't going to pull the trigger wanting to upgrade other items...but this worked great...FOR ME! Laughing

Sorry to Steve...he got another remote! Laughing

Steve - as a side note...I was wondering if anyone else heard a bit of crackling from Chad's theater? I didn't want to say anything and piss someone off...but it seemed like he might have been driving his center channel a bit past what it was capable of. You should snoop around next time you are over there and see if that thing is toast or what.

That scene is the ultimate torture test for On/Off....It's the first clip I play for a demo...IMO total darkness is the only way to watch a movie.

Hey, Mike - Thank you so much for all the help with the ripping... I really appreciated it, and it was totally worth it having a couple of clips to demo without having to swap discs. It's also got me interested in ripping if I can get simplify the process and find a cheap newer Windows machine to dedicate to HTPC duty... I oughta be able to find some older Core 2 Duo box for a couple hundy, I'd think...

Thought I'd copy/past the photos from our Iowa meet thread... We didn't take many photos and didn't take any at all of the middle two stops on the crawl, but here's a few we did get.

Cheers,
SC

First stop: Jeff's place.

Brad, Russ, Warren, Jim, Darren and Chad.

Waiting to make sure everybody had arrived before Jeff got started.

Jeff talking about his awesome room. Concert BD's sound better than the actual concert.

Awesome door prizes from Alan at AV Science. Greg took home the Oppo, Nate scored the Marantz CD player, and I added another remote to my collection. Wink Thanks, Alan!!!

Door prizes not pictured were Itai's iRule (with gateway), and a few copies of scubasteve's Another 1080p Demo Disc that I burned and put in some BD cases with covers.

Darren brought his amazing DIY speakers for everybody to see- and listen to.

I'm pretty sure Darren's enthusiasm for DIY speakers has infected more than a couple in the group, including myself. Thanks again, Darren! The speakers sounded amazing… Seriously - very impressive!

Speaker leads fell off due to the massive bass coming from my theater directly downstairs. It had nothing to do with getting moved from Darren's house, into mine, and sitting in the back of a vehicle for a couple of hours. Naaahhhh…

Darren's DIY speakers, driven by a classic Marantz integrated amp and Marantz CD5003. Note really nice DIY speaker cables!

Some of the remaining group listening to Darren's speakers.

Aaaaannnnddd… This year's group photo!

That is kinda funny, isn't it? Similar ages, occupations, techies, etc. I guess. I was the shaggy rebel that needed a haircut six weeks ago... Got one today, though. Wink

No if it were a mullet you want I would show you my hair cut when I was 18 Laughing I had hockey hair.

My current hair "cut" is much longer than a mullet.

You had Ruth's Chris with Chad and me, so you should recognize Chad's name!!! Wink

I think a few of the guys have build threads in the Design & Construction forum, but since I hardly visit anything besides the Iowa thread and the iRule thread anymore, I have no idea where else they're posting!!!

At first, I felt kinda guilty taking the door prizes from Alan after everything I've said about AVS... But, AV Science and AVS Forum are really totally separate entities, and it's the forum that actually had everybody all pissed off... I guess I wouldn't think twice about buying something from AV Science, and I'm glad to support that side of things... And, in spite of all the forum BS that pissed us all off (which I don't think Alan really has anything to do with), the Iowa group at least owes their existence to AVS Forum, so...

I recognize Chad's name just not his forum name. Your correct about Ruths Chris. Plus, I had him in the back of my van. Wait, that doesn't sound right. Shocked Laughing Laughing

Yeah, the forum and Alan are different. I think it is kind of like Curt and this forum. I would give AVS a chance for my business first before looking at other places.
