Being stuck in an apartment for the time being, I don't have the space to use my projector (Barco 708). So I have to store it in the basement. It doesn't get that cold or hot down there, but the humidity is a bit high. Should I try and seal the projector with garbage bags and duct tape before bringing it down, just put a towel over it, or something else?

If it's really humid I would think sealing it in a bag with a good amount of dessicant inside the bag would be a good idea, and checking it periodically.
Otherwise I'd just leave it in the air with something to cover the lenses just so they don't get too dusty. I have an 808 and an 8500 (that I should really get rid of) that I do nothing special with, but it's very dry inside here so I'm not really concerned about anything.

you are letting an apartment get in the way of you using your projector. Use the basement!

The basement he's referring to is likely just a storage area. I have 3 CRT projectors in my apartment. Just set it up and put a table over top over it. Or stand it up at the back of the room and bounce it off a mirror.

I have a mirror from a RPTV that is optically beautiful...you can have for shipping costs. I don't know if the RPTV mirrors are special somehow or not. I was saving it for, well, I have no idea...just couldn't bring myself to throw it out. You'd need only mount it.
That said, if you want to store it down where there is humidity, I agree with Chris about sealing it with desiccant. McMaster-Carr sells a pound of the color-changing silica for under $20. You could then open it up after a week, month, six month and peer if it is really sealed by color. Bonus: if the color has changed, stick the stuff in a glass pan in the oven at 275degrees until the color changes back (this is fast in a vacuum oven, but takes a day in a normal one).
All of that said, I was told my ECP sat in Detroit in a crappy, old garage for 5 years (no climate control) with only a canvas tarp top over it. It survived.

I can't tell how many CRT TV's and monitors I've picked up in the rain, allowed a couple of weeks for drying and fired them up just fine.
However, my Ampro 4000 got left out in the rain during shipping and everything got corroded, caused all sorts of issues.
a loose bag with a couple of packs of desiccant is a good idea. The RPTV mirror is what I was going to suggest too.

If you seal the plastic bag (transparent one) with heat, there is some very cheap heat bag sealers on the market, you'll need only to check it once or twice, if the silica still has clear color after a month or two, no need to check it again, it will be dry for years.
