Walter, Hurley is starting to cater to the home theater market and are offering screen frames much like you get from the other manufacturers, so they don't just have the grommet ones. Their home theater frame is the H-Pad.

As an aside, I've not seen the Hurley gain tested, but comparing it to ones whose gains have been tested, their gain rating seems to be accurate. I may have liked their 1.5 gain just a little more than my CinemaVision, but it had a tad more color shifting and was not enough better to warrant swapping. If buying new now, I might go that way. I just wish they did a 1.3 gain screen.

Dave

I don't know what gain the screen I painted is but I do know it is a night-and-day difference when compared to flat white. The picture is sharper and the colors brighter since I painted the screen using Kal's instructions.

What was the flat white paint? There is a good chance your gain was under 1.0.

I'd sure like to try a studiotek 130 against the Hurley I have and see if there is any noticable colour shifting with the 130.
When I sent emails to companies who sold both products and asked them to tell me why I should buy a 130 over the Hurley for more than twice the price I never once got a reply which answered the question. Not sure if they just didn't give a sh*t about a potential client or not.

You may be right. The flat white paint was just 2 coats of Walmart flat white. So if the UPW paint is that much better than flat white, how much better is a good screen. By good I mean around $200.

Geez I don't think I paid not much more than 200 for my Hurley screen.

OK, so $200 will get a good screen. What I'm asking is, how much do I get for $200? Is it a major, I can't believe my eyes, I should have done that years ago type thing?

If it is simply a marginal improvement then I'll just stick with my UPW wall. I'm not a videophile, I just want a nice picture.

Well I can't judge what your standards are. For the painted screen I had, I used the Light Fusion formula and after using this Hurley screen I'd never go back and I think it was money well spent.
