I'm fixing up a Marquee 8500 that has almost 19,000 hours on the tubes, so they are shot and very, very, very, very dim.

The set is very clean and works, and I got it for free from the facility where I work, so I'm willing to invest in a new set of CRTs to bring it back to life.

Any advice on resources for a decent set of tubes? I would like to consider new if I can get them, although a good set of 9 or 8 or even 7s would be acceptable. I'm in the Minneapolis area for help on shipping.

Thanks for any help!

probably has the P14 filament voltage problem. You should check this before even thinking about new tubes.
I have a new Green and Red, If I can't find the blue I'll sell them.

Hello

I can order rebuilt 8500 tubes for you, $1250 and shipping for the set. For a bit more, I will transfer your tube magnetics and covers to the rebuilt tubes and pre-align the magnetics for you.

If you quizzed everyone here with eight inch tubes for sale there would be 29,000 reds, 5 blues and a green Smile

Just a quick update. Many thanks for the suggestions and help, I have a set of tubes coming from Azi next week. Depending on how long it takes to get them installed and the set realigned (!) and a screen up, I might be able to post some screenshots in a few weeks.

Thanks all!

So now I have three old tubes from the Marquee 8500 I just fixed up, all still with the housings, magnetics, and the front lens mounts.

However, all have suffered the dreaded Marquee P14 heater death. The Red is a 8-9, the Blue a 8, and the Green a 6-7.

Are these worth anything for rebuilding, or is it better to just dispose of them in our local recycling center?

Id call VDC to see if they want them. I dont think anyone is making new Tube glass. Thomas Electronics in NY might still be, they are another company you can call and see if they want them.

If the phosphor is still that good then someone should at least try giving them a blast with a Sencore if they are only dim.

Mac I have a blue here with no emission but the part that I don't understand is the bell is still shiny silver color. This usually turn Bronze/Brown after so many hours. I guess it could have been left in Marquee stand-by (video mute) for a long time?
Wish I had a sencore here. Sad

Guys

Who wants to step up and make their 8500 into a 9500? I have superminty nine inch tube sets with covers, GT17 lenses, and the mounting plates are not hard to find. PM me if interested.
