What do you guys think about these? There is someone local to me selling off three of them in unknown but supposedly functional condition. Can I use these in a stack or blend, should I? Also what would you pay for them?

A good machine thats not worth much if anything. Stacking and blending can be done but you will need some other boards such as SEMU and possibly Contrast Modulation and IBC link boards.

Are these boards still available, and are they even necessary if I'm using a htpc?
Thanks!

You should be able to find those boards although it might be difficult. I am not sure how you would avoid them in a blend but you might in a stack although Contrast Modulation is probably advisable. There are guys on this forum that have plenty of experience with blends and stacks you should do a search.

To blend these sounds a little crazy, you'd have a very large blurry picture. stacking over/under on a normal sized screen would be fun to do just for the sake of doing it.

I have a few of these and there is no way to blend or stack them, they are too old..the picture will be soft for more than an hour after starting and will drift around..
anyway, I am using mine and `happy` with the pic at 720p. if you can get 3 working machines then you will have spare parts for a long time. just hope the tubes are good and the smps wont burn spots on them.
if I lived in USA I really wouldnt bother with them, marquees and other MUCH better machines can be had for a dime over there..here its a little bit different, one local guy is selling a G70 and asking around 4000 usd for it.. of course he wont sell it for that price but the only other G70 for sale in my country has bad tubes and problems and the asking price for that is 800 usd,,so you see why I have to live with a ES set....:/

Spoiled bunch of brats here. We used to stack Barco 600s...
Without the optional convergence on green chips on hte convergence board, a stack or blend will be almost impossible. I agree, $100 for all three, if you part them out I'll double your money just on buying the quadruplers off you.

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys, I mostly wanted them for something to experiment with as I'm still more than happy with my Runco. Unfortunately, it would seem that the seller is crazy and will take no lower than 300 each.

You're right, he'll be sitting on them forever. Go back in a month, talk to his wife that wants them gone, and give HER the $100.
