Hi All!
I am a Swedish Video artist and I am trying to startup an old Videoinstallation. The installation includes two Sony VPH-1001QM videoprojectors. One of the projectors works fine but the other one just lights up for a few seconds and the shuts down, the fans runs and the light inside starts but just for 2-3 seconds.
Please help - what can be the fault?
Thanks soo much in advance,
Mats, Sweden

TV/Projector: All of them!

Check for the obvious, a stuck fan. Do the tubes actually emit light for a couple of seconds before the set shuts down?

All you can really do is swap boards between the set to narrow the problem down. hte 1001 is very much an entry level set, so I've got a few parts left for it, but don't have everything in stock for it, as most people are no longer using the Sony 1000 series.

Dear Curt Palme,
Thank you for you swift answer! I am in a really bad situation. I should be showing this installation in a Gallery next week... These projectors has never failed me before - they have been at the Yokahama triennial, Mois de la Photo in Montreal and the Musee d'art Moderne in Paris... But the last time i turned them on was 5 years ago.
I have checked the fans and I have talked to techs but no one wants to deal with crt projectors anymore...
The idea with this particular show is to run the installation the way it was in 2001 - and it really looks beautiful with crt projectors.
I don't think the tubes emit any light before shutting down.
I downloaded the service manual for the 1000q on your site - but there is very little guidance in troubleshooting in it.
What can I do?
Thanks for your help - you are my last resort.
