Wow. They sound great. I had forgotten how great. I became obsessed with the CRT picture quality and really haven't listened to 2 channel in quite a while. Since I am retubing I have been doing some 2 channel listening again. Of course now I'm back to measuring the speaker angles and distances and putting the spikes back in the speakers and the...well, It's done and I am relaxing and just listening , Oh the sound.
Anyway,
I have a few of these, some Dylan, some Dire Straits, Traffic, The Allmman Brothers....Etc. I have very few because when they first came out they were expensive so I just figured I would wait a few years and they would be less costly.
Well that hasn't happened.
Does anyone know where to get these SACD's cheap, or have any they want to sell cheap ...like $10?

Amazon has a shitload of them (including Amazon sellers) and is probably your best bet. There are a few of the more popular titles like you have for $10-15, but most is $20+ and the more rare stuff is more like $25-30 and up.

Yep I know. I saw them there. I thought they would have come down in price by now

I don't think that's going to happen... From what I heard, the few USA plants that were pressing SACD's stopped doing so, and the premium charged by those who are left is getting larger - not smaller. Personally, I don't think the future bodes well for the format even though I had high hopes.

Damn, I bet it would... Frankie is of my all-time faves - totally takes me back to being 16 or 17... Those recordings were excellent, too.
Too bad a $120 SACD isn't in my future anytime soon...
If I ever have a lot of money to spend, I'll be seeing the UPS and FedEx drivers pretty frequently...

Dave, did you ever listen to anything besides "Relax"? The albums were really, really well done. Very unique compositionally - and as far as the recordings, they were excellent - super clean with awesome dynamics.
They covered "Born to Run", and it totally kicks ass... If you're a big fan of Springsteen, then you probably won't appreciate, but for people like me who aren't a big fan of the boss, the Frankie version is just awesome.

Let's face it, Frankie was the brainchild of Trevor Horn, and nothing more than studio musicians. The Pleasuredome album was exceptionally well crafted and (hate me for the comparison!), I pull it out like I do Dark Side of the Moon at least once a year for a day and crank the hell out of it in the car.
I could give a crap about the fact that a bunch of the guys were gay, whether 'Relax' was about masturbation, I just loved the music, and despite the fact that there really wasn't a FGTH 'band' per se, the music is no different than the studio musicians put behind artists of today.
I actually went to go see FGTH sometime in the 90s, enjoyed the show with hardly anyone attending..... and found out after the fact that not a single member of the band had anything to do with the album. Go figure.

Just kidding. i couldn't care less. Springsteen is pretty good though. Frankie goes ...any where that isn't near my ears.

BTW, for the FGTH fans, here's a rarely heard version of Rage HArd. I love this version:

BTW, for some reason, Springsteen does nothing for me. So yeah, I like FGTH's version of Born to Run better. <ducks>

Yeah, it's that Bruce vocal that I'm not big on. I would go see him in concert, I know he puts on a killer show, but bleh on his studio stuff. I know he sings a lot about blue collar American life, give me Mellencamp or even Kid Rock over Bruce when it comes to the vocals.. just not my personal cup of tea..

Oh yeah, I can see that. Bruce, Dylan, yeah, they've got that whole druken slurring vocal thing, so yeah I get that.

I'm not quite that "off" The Boss... I'm not a huge fan, but I don't dislike him, either... I could take it or leave it most of the time.
Never heard that remix of Rage Hard... Interesting, Curt...
Same thing happened to me in the late-90's Curt... Went to a Frankie show, it was a great show, they played great, it sounded awesome, but it was a very small show - I'm talking probably less than 1000 people. I even had them sign my original Pleasuredome CD from 1986 or whatever... THEN we go to leave, and there's this old, sh*tty tour bus behind the venue... I do some checking and find out later, yeah - none of the original musicians were in that band - later, I read on Holly Johnson's website that he was even telling fans to make sure they didn't go see this "imposter" band.
Whatever. Whoever it was actually put on a great show. <shrugs shoulders>
Kinda mad I got my original CD "defaced", though.

Crap, it was the late 90s, I saw that same tour. Maybe 300 people when I went. I actually bootlegged it though, but never even listened to it after I read in the paper the next day that they had no original members..

Back to SACD...
I don't see anything "audiophile" being anything but niche, anymore. Almost this entire generation under 30 has never heard anything but mp3 through earbuds or big, loud, boomy car stereos.
Does anybody think SACD, DVD-Audio, or any other audio carrier has a chance?
Blu-ray has great audio capability, so maybe there's an opportunity for labels, there... Maybe? I'd pay $15 for an "audio-only" Blu-ray with high-res multi-channel audio on it just as happily as I pay $10 for a CD... In fact, I might start buying music regularly again if that happened.
Thoughts?

I was thinking the same thing, why aren't the blu-ray guys using the losses formats to do music discs? Not music videos just uncompressed audio, like SACD right?
Only I would expect $10, because you can buy movies for that price, new all day long, you just have to wait.
And yeah these young kids have no idea what the sound is supposed to sound like . Just pop in these little earbuds and wow. Mp3 junk sound.
Notice I didn't say music because that thread has been done to death.

I think it will actually progress to higher res online delivery, because it's really easy and any computer has no problem with CD-res or higher res audio downloads. There is a lot available out there. And because it's online delivery, there's not all the trouble of having some new niche format, it's just what's already out there. The trick is just getting the content out there and available.
I mean, pretty much anything produced in the last 20 years probably has high-res digital masters that they can easily put online without a lot of difficulty.
I also think that high-quality audio will always be here, and I think there are a lot more young people into that than one might think. Maybe it's just because I'm in hipster-Seattle, which is also a music mecca, but I think the huge proliferation and access to and consumption of music is really going through the roof. And I think demand for quality audio is increasing and will grow. I think it's also a lot more affordable and accessible than ever.
