I should be able to bring some BBQ; I'll confirm as the date gets closer. I'll also need a few hours before hand to heat it up in an oven.

Not sure at this point, but I do want to make this. I'll know for sure as we get closer to the date. Been a little too busy these days.

Plus, I gotta see what the G90 mods look like first hand after it has been calibrated by the best out there... That is going to be one SMOKING G90..Mr. Green

Oh, I had mentioned some time back in another thread, that I will be sending a forum member an modified BA board that came out of their G90. Once they get this board (should be next week), they are expected to post what differences they'll see after the mod process. Soon after, they will get their G90 fully calibrated, but before that happens, I'd like to hear what they notice from a simple re-install of the BA board followed by an image evaluation. This person has also seen some of the best setups themselves, so they know what to look for.

Fingers crossed, and REALLY looking forward to making this..Very Happy

You know, the funny thing is the room does not photograph well. Almost everything in the room is black and when I take a picture all I can ever see is the screen and the sofa on the second tier.

I'll try and get some close shots of things and post them. Below is a link to the masking system that I designed a while back:

That should get you started.

You can pretty much remove me from the list. I opened my big mouth down here and created some living situation issues. Consequently my new plan is to move to Vegas in May till Labor day and then swing back through to Cedia and finally back down to SoFl in Oct.

I updated the list of attendees.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING as I need to plan food and stuff.

Also, if you need to know where about I am located, my house is right near the Western stop for the Brown Line "L".
4645 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60625

If you are staying in down town Chicago you can easily get here by public transit on the El, a taxi, or by your own car. If you are driving yourself don't forget to ask me for a parking permit!

Thanks all,
craigr

Ummmmmmm, did I say I wasn't coming? Shocked I meant that I would only be there for a week. Laughing

Tell your sister that I do have that nude photo that I found of her on the net as my desktop background. Razz

I do plan on attending your Cedia meet or is that Cliffs meet.

OK, now that this has been up-and-running for a while, how would you compare the picture quality of 3-D on a CRT to that of a average large 3-D capable flatscreen tv?

I ask because I was in BB on Sunday to pick up a few things and took the time to check out the 3-D display and quite frankly was less than impressed. The image was soft, dim and lacked consistancy of quality. For me to even remotely consider trying to make it work with ANY crt, it would have to be way better than what I saw.

I think the technology needs to mature a bit more to command my attention. When It WOW's me at the retail level I'll look into it IF I haven't already made the switch to digital. Wink

Oh sh*t Craig, I just saw your list. I guess my cryptic jokes left room for interpretation. I am not coming. But I do appreciate the invite.

Well, I would like it very much if you found a way to attend my meet so that you could make the judgment call yourself Wink

However, I will say that the entire 3D thing is very much open to individual interpretation... I think a lot of folks out there just flat out do not like 3D. If you are in this camp than I don't think you will like the G90 running 3D much more than the flat panels.

But if you already know you like 3D from a movie theater experience, or if you just think it is cool, than my bet is that most folks will choose the G90 running 3D over a store bought flat panel. The G90 is bigger and that makes a huge difference. The G90 also has much better black levels and low end details with 3D than many of the flat panel and DLP projectors I have seen. That being said, many of the panels also have a good black level in 3D because the glasses act as a neutral density filter which helps the black level out.

The G90 is not as bright as most of the digital panels or rear projectors running 3D, but it is in a light controlled room and I have not been bothered at all by the luma I am getting from the G90. Yes, it is much dimmer than 2D without glasses. But after watching 3D for two minutes your eye acclimates and everything looks bright enough with a good contrast ratio.

The G90 has some ghosting in some scenes, but all in all is pretty benign. But if you are VERY bothered by ghosting than you may think the flat panel is better... but most flat panels ghost some or even more than the G90 so maybe not. If you want a perfect picture than I don't think 3D is for you as every 3D setup I have seen has some issues.

I am very anxious to see what everyone thinks at the meet. So far my wife, Cliff, and another of my client's are the only videophiles who have seen the setup. My wife has been the most critical because she has listened to my gripes as I have developed the system, Cliff was impressed though he could spot some of the defects, and my other client thought it looked great for 3D and as good as the IMAX but he hates 3D to start with Smile

We'll see I guess.

Kind regards,
craigr
