I'm surprised they let you drive through OHIO with that thing, Wallace.

Bummed I couldn't make it, too.

If I could make the time tomorrow and drive out with Kevin, I'd do it. Too much going on here in Detroit...and that's a GOOD thing for me.

Cheers

Craig,
You have most definitely built the "WOW factor"!!! Thumbs Up

And thats a lot of power for the speakers in general (IMHO anyways). But all I can say is it works! I am a big fan of horns for front speakers, but your set-up sounds really nice.

It would be really cool to watch/listen to some stuff like David Gilmour - Live @ RAH on them. Of course, I am hard of hearing (at least that is what I use for an excuse Laughing ) and the volume would need to be way up! Cliff knows what I am talking 'bout.

Quarterly meets? Yes Sir!!!! Give me a few months to get this new smoker going and we'll be smoking in the streets! Thumbs Up

I am really looking forward to you heading out this way to finish the fan mods and possible the "CIR'ed 3D Effect" on the G90!

Again, I really had a cool time! Looking forward to coming back out there for CEDIA and hopefully being able to swing by your place.

Hey Wallace, I am getting a lot of work lined up in the DC area so be ready!

As far as amps and power goes, I am in the camp that you can never have to much power. I used to have just one A250 (2x250 watts) when I first started buying this audio hardware back in 1995. I actually blew out the crossovers and mid range drivers in both Studio 100's because I clipped the amp while listening to live bootleg recordings of concerts (these drive hard even at relatively low volume). After adding another 500 watts to the system I have never had another problem Smile

Horns with 500 watts per speaker probably wouldn't be a good idea though as horns are so darn efficient they don't need so much power. Although, my mom asked me once if I really "needed" another amp... I replied that "need" is a strong word Wink

I really think I may start doing meets at least twice a year. It will probably be good for business and be a lot of fun as well. Lately this gig of mine feels to much like work and not enough like fun.

BTW that smoker looks amazing. Now I understand why you drove so far to get it!

Oh, I caught that, which is why I mentioned going this past weekend (assuming the drivers were only a week late)...let me know when you are making the trip.

I'd like to meet Craig, and I'm sure if we time it right Cliffy'll have us through for a drive-by visit on the way back.

Cheers, you've got my number, right?!

Oh crap!!! I didn't get a chance to do the fan mod last weekend and will not be able to this weekend (also still haven't done taxes Twisted Evil ) I hope you can give me a till the end of April.

Are the Paradigm efficient? I like horns maybe cause that was what I heard a lot of 40 years ago as I spent a lot of time going to concerts (that was back when tickets cost like, $2.00 - $4.50). And, of course, Altec VOT was the choice. Super effiecient and super load! "Can you turn it up a little more? We are having trouble hearing you in the next valley."

I like power as well, or at least to have it in reserve when needed!!! High amp power!

Hopefully, when you are this way, you could hang out long enough to maybe try a prime rib roast on the smoker!

Man, I luv BBQ!!!!

Craigr,

I have followed this thread since day one and am very appreciative of the excellent work you have done. Some of the crew you showed it to have very high standards and they were super-impressed!

I have always had a thought in the back of my mind that my blend would be a natural for 3D because of the added light output and bandwidth reduction available through blending.

To help me figure out what additions/changes I will need (how much $!!!) to do 3D, could you please give us a short list of your signal change from BD to screen, along with settings such as resolution/refresh?

Many thanks and keep up the good work - BTW, when I retubed my XG's for my blend, I used short persistence green tubes. Hopefully that will help.

Hey Don,

I am most likely looking at DC towards the end of April, so we should be in good shape. I also have to go to NY and CT on that trip, so I will be on the road for a while.

Paradigms are very efficient for high end conventional speakers. My center's rated efficiency is 93db which is much lower than a horn, but very high for a traditional driver.

Thanks,

The signal chain is simple: Oppo BDP-93 > Lumagen RadianceXE+3D > Moome FULLHD Sony IFB. You also need the Lumagen CRT dongle to send the TTL timing to the 3D glasses IR emitter, and you need the IR emitter and glasses.

Refresh rates include 96Hz for film material (24/48Hz) and 120Hz for video based material.

I also just got the DISH ViP922 which supports 3D from sat, but I have not tried anything in 3D from it yet.

With the short persistence tubes in your blend you will be golden. And with a blend you will be in really good shape.

Kind regards,
craigr

craigr,

Thanks for the list - Looks like I'm going to need some new hardware!

The blending brings up a few more questions:
1 - I would assume that my current use of HD-SDI won't work?
2 - Obviously my VP-50Pro is not (nor will it ever be) 3D, so I will need an XE+3D - Can both outputs be used simultaneously as long as there is a separate Moome MUX (with dig. outputs) for each output?
3 - At what point in the chain does the signal become a conventional video signal - My concern is any potential problem with my TVOne's accepting the signal. As it is now, it really doesn't do well with HDCP.
4 - What resolution are you running, and is there any restrictions besides bandwidth? Is the native resolution on the discs 1080?
5 - How/Where could I get the lossless audio signal.

Damn - I hope this isn't too expensive!!!

Thanks,
Bob

So assuming someone doesn't have any of this, what's the ballpark $$$ figure for this list Shocked

Well, my hardware is all the most expensive options that exist (except the BD player). You can spend less if you want to.

High Cost Option:
RadianceXE+3D is MSRP $5499
Oppo BDP-93 is MSRP $499
Moome IFB is $350
Sync Dongle is MSRP $399

Mid Cost Option:
RadianceXS+3D MSRP $3499
Samsung or Sony 3DBD player ~ $100
Moome IFB $350
Lumagen Sync Dongle MSRP $399

Low Cost Option:
RadianceMini3D MSRP $1999
Samsung or Sony 3DBD player ~ $100
HDFury Version 1 ~ $50
Home made Sync Dongle ~ $15

If I sell the hardware and do the installation I always discount heavily on the combo of service plus hardware.

Quick google amazon 3D players:
