Ok so having sold some things on ebay I can now afford to buy this
http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-95/
Here is my dilemma, the BD-93 shares the identical chipset for video.
http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-93/
The 95 plays SACD, has a discreet chipset for analog output, and XLR outs too. The XLR's are off no use to me though.
My Arcam AV-9 does not process True HD or the DTS MA so I need to have analog out puts on whatever I purchase. I use the analog outs of My current Sony BDs550 the picture is fairly good but the audio sucks for 2 channel stereo listening. The Sony is going down stairs to the main T.V. so Blu-ray can be watched there too.
I also have an Integra DPS 10.5 DVD player that has an outstanding 2 channel audio output stage Plays SACD. It however seems to have a problem, it has started to make a chirp through the speakers each time the CD changes tracks, like static discharge.
I'm sure it can be repaired or even upgraded/ modded for less than the difference in the price between these 2 machines.
Which way would you go?
1] Buy the 95, fix nothing.
2] Buy the 93 fix the Integra.
3] Buy the 93 fix nothing, why bother?

If you want to get a handle on making a choice between the BDP93 or 95, it might be worthwhile taking a look at the most recent "audio only" detailed review of both models over at the "Secrets of HT" website. Other than maybe the more exotic look of the 95 and the 2 channel XLR outputs, the reviewer was essentially hard pressed to justify paying that considerable extra for the 95. Both units utilizing strictly "analog outs" in the review were that good. There was some "slight" superiority in the performance of the 95 over the 93 showing in waveforms on his $26,000 scope, however, whatever they were, they were well beyond the range of audibility.
I was waiting to see what the assessment was of the 95 compared to the 93 because I like the "look" of it a bit better, however, when I saw this evaluation, and since, as you already stated, the video chip sets in each are identical and my connections are only HDMI anyway, I think I am going to save myself a bunch of money and buy the 93. Incidentally, the 93 plays all the same type of discs the 95 does including SACD.
"Secrets" is doing a two part review and the next one will be about the video performance of both which should be identical. Based on that, probably choice 3 would be the obvious and also require the least expenditure.

Yeah I know, The 95 specs out like an audio fools wet dream. Toroidal power supply, discrete DACS, seperate analog output RCA jacks, and, and.... I'm drooling on my keyboard.

My point exactly, I have listened to test tones piped through my system and after about 15KHZ, forget it. According to the measurements of both units in the review, the 93 starts to roll off after 30KHZ and the 95, 72KHZ, so in either case I believe we are in good shape. The reality is, it is nice to show the "extreme" differences on expensive scopes and waveform monitors like this reviewer used, however, he does this only to show whatever differences exist between the players because these are both such top performers. In a "real world" application, inaudible is inaudible.
In either case with Oppo you get superior performance, top notch value along with unmatched technical support. That is why whether it is the 93 or 95, it will be the third Oppo unit that I have owned.

I presently have the BDP83, I would think it will eventually be moved to another room in the house.

Oh, momma - that's a nice looking player...
I swear the guys from Oppo were reading our threads here where I was bitching that the Oppos were great, but that they needed to hire an actual industrial designer to give it a little professional polish so it didn't look like something that belonged on a shelf in one of those little photo stores on the Fisherman's Wharf...
Nice, very nice. They're both great looking!
At this point, I have no objections whatsoever to an Oppo... In fact, I might just have to buy somebody's 93 that just HAS to have the 95.

Yeah, and it's more than skin deep too. The audio board has 10 grounding points..... 10 of them, wow
Funny thing is I was already to pull the trigger back in October on the 83, and everyone here told me to just wait for the 93. I'm glad I did. The 95 is going to be hard to resist. I have the cash for it, courtesy of ebay. It's calling to me.....
I need time to think. Must refrain.

Be true to yourself. If you can't hear it or see it then why pay for it?

Well said! I have the 93 and I love it! I am also not that hardcore of an audio nut, so the 95 never hit my list.

All to true. But this won't cost me a dime the things I have sold on ebay are paying for it. So really just traded some stuff to get some other stuff.
