I told you it would be easy!!!!Smile It is the set in Florida with 1700hrs on it. I was thinking about grabbing it but I really have absolutely no use for it. However, Don PM'd me on Saturday wanting to buy the $500 G90 I purchased in Dallas so I immediatley gave him the information for the set in Florida instead. I didn't want to sell him the set from Dallas because for the amount he was offering he could get the G90 in Florida that has half the hours on it for less money. A much better deal indeed!!!!

Anyways, I think we would all agree here that it couldn't happen to a better dude!!!!

Congrats Don!!! And be sure to post back after you pick it up this weekend!

Pretty soon all of the G90's in the world will belong to folks on this forum and those in China and Japan. We should take a serial number inventory.

Glad to see another G90 show up here Smile

Congrats!

So, Don - If you don't mind saying, what did you end up paying for the G90? I'm just curious what kind of deals are happening, these days... I remember a few years ago thinking that sub-$2000 G90's would probably never happen; that like tube audio equipment, one of the "last best" machines would always have some value beyond what I'd be willing to spend. Now I'm wondering...

You G90 guys should definitely start a G90 owners' registry like the collector car guys do... It would be a blast to have a "pedigree" for these projectors. Maybe nobody will care ten years from now, but for the next 2-3 years, it would be fun to see a list of most of the known machines in HT enthusiasts' hands (or more specifically, on their ceilings.) Wink

I won't speak for Don. I'll let him post the price if he wants to. But the G90 I picked up in Dallas has 3400hrs on it and I got it for $500.00. I've probably had 7 or 8 G90s pass through my hands in the last 4 or 5 years and I have never paid more than $3500 for any of them. And in the last two years, I've haven't paid over $1500.00. So the deals are out there if you are actively looking for them. Now, some of you might be saying, "Yeah, but the tubes can be shot at 3400hrs." And at 3400hrs, the wear may be unacceptable for some, but for others it will be perfectly acceptable as long as it is set up within the wear area. I think Clarence would be the perfect testament to that. He has well over 10,000 hrs on his original tubes and is still loving the pic it throws. Thumbs Up

Way to go Don. Are you going to increase your screen size? If you leave your screen the size it is you'll need sunglasses.

Doc is spot-on. You gotta look, look, and look; everyday. I have seen other g90s out there, but just didn't make an offer after speaking with the seller(s). And, the tubes being no good after 3400hrs, I agree there. No way. I've seen Clarence's and Cliff's g90's. All of them over that amount and still SMOKING!!!!!

If you get someone to calibrate it properly (Ken, Craig, Terry), it will look great and stay that way for a long time.

Don't be like I do and f*ck with the contrast or green gain. Embarassed Embarassed Although after the last set-up Ken did for me, it has been rock solid and still looking great on the nec 6pg xtra; well over 1 year.

My problem is that after seeing William and Cliff's as many times as I have, I really wanted to upgrade. I looked for tubes for the 6pg xtra; no luck! My next thought was high end nec, or g90.

Looks like a g90 will work for me. Thumbs Up

Thanks Steve. I hope the pj is as good as I am "wishing upon a star" for.

It's going to be "sunglasses" until I get a bigger screen. The guy selling has a screen that I am going to look at when I pick it up. So, never know; might get a new screen and pj.

Congrats Don! Let me know if you need any help moving the beast into your HT.

Yep... just had our annual Super Bowl party with 50 neighborhood friends. I brought up the convergence grid to see if I needed to touch it up... nope... still good. So I figured I'd check the hours... about to hit 14,000 Cool Still cranking out a great picture.

I usually run it at contrast=70, and used to turn it down to C=60 whenever my kids played video games, but now I've got it cranked up to the default of Contrast=80... eventually it'll wear enough to replace with one of the spare tubes.

I am like a kid with a new pocket knife!!!! But scared to open the blade and cut myself.

Had a long 3 full days driving to Florida to pick it up (weather was beautiful!!!). 17 hours each way!

Got home and pulled the green and blue lens. Some 16x9 image wear, but good centered wear. I would say between a 7 & 8 on Curts scale. I couldn't get decent pics of the tubes, but will once inside. Came with remote, nice power cable and factory manuals. Very clean.

I would say it is about the same wear as this listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-VPH-G90U-CRT-Projector-/260730774471?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb4c3e3c7

1783 hours. For the wear, my displayed image will be well within the current wear, so I am very happy. The guy had it hooked up to a bd player and the pic looked great; even with the light on in the room.

Now, I gotta figure out how to get thing up on the ceiling.

Looks nice!

I'm out of town until Thursday night.

Did you get a ceiling mount?

Maybe Cliff can help me remember what's in my equipment closet, but I think I might have a ceiling mount... it might even be motorized... it's been so many years that I can't remember if I gave Cliff one or if he gave me one. Heck, it could even be from back in my Marquee days. Anyways, mine's been hanging on the same temporary chains since the day I hoisted it 5 years ago, even though it's also attached to my over-engineered in-ceiling iron pipe mount.

Dang it, you're the young one with the sharp mind... I was hoping you'd remember. Bottom line, Don, don't rig anything until I get back on Thursday and look on the bottom shelf of my equipment closet.

Even better, I'll ask one of my kids to take a look when I call home tomorrow.

If it's a Chief lift the thing is about 1/2 as heavy as a G90 (Not really) you almost need a lift to install the lift.

The projector looks really nice Don!
