So, a certain long time and very deserving member is about to get an upgrade. This guy has attended at least nine different get togethers throughout the country and each and every host has had zero complaints about his presence. If you have attended any of the meets that he has been at, you know that he never meets a stranger and can dish out a ribbing with the best of them. When it comes to being likeable, he smokes most of the competition out there. Also, when asked to perform a favor, this guy lines up sporting a smile and makes no beefs about it. One thing is for sure, by the end of the meet, this member leaves you craving nothing and feeling totally satisfied.
I thought I would have a little fun with this.
Any thoughts on who the member is and what projector he is getting?
Please post why you think it is the member you have chosen as well as the projector.
It's probably going to be easy but what the hell it's something different!!!

Are you talking about Cliff?
Since he stacks G90's now, I would guess either a Sim2 Mico 50 or possibly the Runco i750..... if it is actually cliff that you are talking about.

If it was Cliff, then what would he be upgrading to? a Shelby Omni? As Clarence said, I will upgrade to digital when it is an upgrade not a side grade (or something to that effect).

As someone who has consumed some of the aforementioned smoked beef and left feeling totally satisfied, I'm putting my money on Don, too... Cool!

Ditto. Unless my G70 died some kind of horrible death and I couldn't repair it or find a suitably disgustingly cheap CRT replacement... In that case, I'd probably have to "side-grade".
Though, seeing a $1300-ish digital in my theater last fall made me realize how much I still love nice, deep, blacks... Even if I could get a cheap JVC, I don't think I'd be quite as happy as I am now... Though the lack of fan noise would be really, really... Really nice.

Yeah, I forgot how quiet my room is without the Marquee running. I am re-tubing right now and have The Mitsubishi back on movie duty. It is so quiet now I can hear the fan on the Sony Blu-ray from 15 feet away. I had forgot it had a fan.
Quiet is not a CRT's strength.

I haven't forgotten how loud the G70 is... My hush box is down right now, so it's even worse, but even when it was on... Man, I'd load up some music on the PS3, get it playing, turn the projector off, and a quiet hush falls over the room... It's amazing how a few fans can just destroy the noise floor and dynamic range.
It could be years, but if there's ever a digital that can make anything even close to true black - something to the point of almost having trouble telling if the projector is on or not if you look at the screen, then I'm in. Otherwise, I probably won't make the jump until my G70 dies or I just wear the tubes out... I'm about a third of the way there in a couple years, so I guess I have about 4 years left. I will NOT be buying another tube for my G70, so I guess the digital engineers better get their asses in gear.
