Jeff,
You need to decide whether scan lines bother you. If not, then 1080i might be fine for you. Some prefer the smooth picture of 1080p.

That's my same screen size, Jeff... I sit about 10 feet away, or about 1.2x screen widths.

OMG, if you really sit 20-feet away from your 8'-wide screen, that's way, way, way too far back, Jeff... THX specs say the viewing angle in the back row in a movie theater - the worst seat in the house - should be no less than 36 degrees; yours is down in the 24 ballpark. To put it in perspective, your viewing angle is similar to the one in my living room where I watch a 42" LCD from seven feet away. Yuck.

Is that YUCK, because of the distance or the LCD? Laughing

Holy sh*t. You sit 20' back from an 8' wide screen? I doubt your eyes can even resolve 1080i. LOL

Maybe you should consider 720P.

Now that's just mean. True, but mean. Laughing

If by "true", you mean "bull****", then yeah - that's true. Twisted Evil

The G70 actually looks pretty sweet at 1080p.

After football season is over I was thinking about taking another shot at getting my pj UP to 1080P, I LOVE the PQ I get now at 1080I , I really do. But you guys know how this disease affects us. MORE, BETTER ETC.
Well i was looking at PJ stats and noticed that it said I could lose sharpness at 1080P, and was wondering if it was worth
all the effort as it is not easy for me like it is you guys. I just dont have your know how in this area, when I tried last time
I gave up after about a week and SETTLED for 1080I.Don't get me wrong, I love my picture but the disease beckons....
All opinions will be appreciated.

Apart frpm Curts comparison has an answer been provided or is the concensus its not worth it Question

My question is whether it matters if your viewing distance is so far back as to be beyond your eyes' ability to resolve 1080 lines to begin with.

Now I'm not picking on you, if you moved closer to the screen and the picture became less focused or "softer" then you do need Glasses.

If you really take the time to dial in a good 8" like a G70 or a XG they can look great at 1080p. The NEC has issue with 1080p on standard 1080p timings so you have to use a scaler or a PC with custom sync timings, however that problem doesn't exist with a G70 I think. Its all about dot size and how small you can get them.

well that's normal, my pic looks sharper in the back row (13 feet), than it does from the front row , 9 feet away. However it's pretty sharp either way. Enough so that I can see a pretty big difference in movies, even if they're all Blue Ray.
maybe a call Craig at CIR engineering is in order for you, he really knows those Sony's like nobody's business.
