Wow, it looks like everyone is having fun at my expense.
Nash pretty much summed it up. I did finally clear out the garage to work on them. When I say clear out, I mean take the G70 and G90 out and place them inside. Of course, as soon as I did my roommate kind of cluttered the garage up again. I can still work, so I need to get out there.
The 909s don't look to be messed up in typical SEOS fashion. I talked to Greg Eissmann and MP about them. Greg gave me some good ideas about getting them to work. I turned one on last week and it is running fine. I will get to the other three and if it is like Greg was saying it should be pretty easy to get them running. Also, thanks to Tom I now have the ability to understand the machines better if you know what I mean.
Now I need time to work on them. Unfortunately, I kind of gotten obsessed with Mercedes diesels. I bought an E300 last week and I am playing around with it. Heck I am so obsessed that I am thinking of buying a S class diesel. Also, I am about to pick up another Miele washing machine. Hopefully, I can get one working Miele out of the two.

Well Spanky (Eric?) I can assure you I certainly am not having fun at your expense..I simply feel people's pain on any of these PJ's....
Been there..got the T-Shirt...and it's covered in bloodstains to boot!
In fact it's how I started messing with these beastie's... around 16 year's ago...a year or two in fact before I met Henry ...
Which series Merc..they are another old hobby of mine...but i'm talking a while back 123 and 124 series...all Diesels....had several of em'

James having worked on several 909 chassis do you find them to be less dependable and more trouble prone then say the 1209s ?

Now then ..this is a tricky one.which ought to be able to be answered with a simple Yes or No...
However, I feel it warrants a more thought out answer...so here goes.
Much of the problem in trying to analyze the ratio's or percentages..is that you are comparing very low numbers of sales (Cine 9) with say just for this example 808/Cine 8's......(very high number's of sales).
But my knee jerk reaction has always been.."Cine 9's are a bit temperemntal" but I wonder if that's fair, I can remember each Cine 9 Henry sold (not a big number) and of course I have kept a mental note of their progress..or more perhaps their owners have kept a track of me...if the CRT need's fixing...who ya gonna call.... yup me..I installed them.
So roughly..off the top of my head...lets say 15 Cine 9's... I recall one unit requiring a Quad..about 200 hours in..in fact Henry had this on a Batch of brand new D808s units he bought in (Cancelled Runco order)..two of those 7 808 units had a failed Quad within a couple of hundred hours.
Barco had a Bad Batch of Quad's they sent out a Bulletin..and duly replaced the defective parts once they reared their head's...so.perhaps this should change the way we look at 'that' Cine 9's break down.
I know of another 909/919 which was not installed etc by myself( but finally got set up by myself)...it had a failed Controller (ouch ££!).
I would say..most Cine 9's suffer from the dreaded Fan controller sub board problem..but it sometimes takes maybe 1500-3000 hours to manifest itself...andd it's not a big deal to sort. This has happened on most..but not all Cine 9's.
I think it alway's seems worse because..'When' they go wrong....just as if a Enzo...or Veyron goes wrong...it hurts £££.
The rather wonderful thing about a Marquee..within reason is..all P/S...Splitters....CHASSIS...and board's.are the same...let's ignore Ultra vs non ultra and early 8000/9000...so this was either incredible design foresight from Electrohome...or just them being as Economical as possible...ok let's be honest..it's the latter...but no matter...
Take a Barco, a 7/8/9 series..are all so different..in chassis...size..parts topology..you can't for example rob a Quad from a 701..and pop it into a G808s
Trouble with a Cine 9....in order to move on...you cant keep making the item the same, fundementally..a Small block Chev is still..somewhere out there..a small block Chev...but it's not really quite the same at all..i'm guessing parts interchange between a 1960's engine and a modern variation are pretty slim??
Barco..in their infinite Wisdom...they re-designed everything..and I mean everything....

Yeah..sure...Bloody Seos unit's!!!!
Mini- rant over...
Seos did all kinds of screwy things...I had some Seos 808 units here..the Convergence..and focus and geomtery were all rendered useless...and could only be controlled by Seos PC control....there was all sorts of add on board's in the Convergence tray..and wires running every which way..even to the controller module....

I was just playing with everyone. Razz away!
The pjs were gone over I think right before they were decommisioned. The company has tags on all of the boards. Greg went over some of the major issues and I think you just about covered them. I can't remember the whole conversation as it was about two months ago. One of my main problems with playing with them is that I may not be able to use them in the near future. I can't use them now, which sucks. I mean I have a stable of CRTs that would make a lot of enthusiasts cry, but I have no where to put them. Even though I can sell them, that wasn't my motivation for buying them. I love playing with and then using them. Kind of takes the fun out of it when you can't use it.
As for the Merc, I bought a 96 E300. The first of the 210s. I am trying to decide if I want to keep it or not. The trunk isn't as big as I thought to carry all of my stuff. The one nice thing is that I drove about 125 miles (200km) the last two days and the diesel gauge hasn't moved much. I am actually surprised that it has adequate acceleration. I am going to look at a 93 S300 diesel tomorrow. I have heard the horror stories about the engine, but I want to see it for myself. The W140 was one of the most expensive cars ever designed and engineered. If I can get the seller down to $4500, then I may have to do it. I paid $4k for the E300 and I should be able to recoup that easily.
Man, CRTs and Merc diesels - what else do we have in common?

he he...and I was in a slightly unusual Corp in her Majesty's Service too.....not going to bull**** or big it up though...I did it for one year....and that was great...
Tom...if he takes those Ear defenders...and slips them over his eyes, he will have a super Aerodynamic (Waterdynamic??) pair of Speedo's...he won't be able to see for $%^&...but neither could I..I just kept surfacing and following the weird smell, a Blend of Costa Coffee...and er.Glycol
I had two W123..a lowly 200D...and a 240D...and after that a 124 300D..uber rare Manual version., my god were those car's built...like Fort Knox.
Tom...I can see Spanky approaching in the water..pulling his raft of Seos 9's like Jack LaLane...rope in mouth....but wait..what's this I see????
Sharks..circling in the water..not around Spanky..but the Barco's..Glycol is leaking in the water..and they can smell it...are the Barco's about to be let go...set adrift?...."presses Binoculars to eyes"..what!..one of the Sharks is Tom
Now I can see Curt ..my god..who could the other two be.....

That isn't me you see. I hate cold water. I don't even like cold drinks.
I remember being at boot camp and having to scale a wall. On the other side was watery mud pit that had been filled by some recent rain. Unfortunately, the temp had dropped to about 40F (about -100C). I can still clearly see my DI look at me and point straight down. Man, that was a shock. Of course, it wasn't over. We had to take outdoor showers later on. Man, I hate cold water.
As for the other two, that is easy. Take your pick, as I have gotten more than a dozen emails and PMs about them and I have never listed them for sale. Even though he needs to work on his car, Nash is probably the largest Great White doing the circling. I do find it interesting how many people are interested in these over the G90 I have. There does seem to be a pecking order for most desirable which goes from Ampro (I can't believe I even wrote that:)), Marquee, G90, Barco.

Eric...how come you are up hours before these other Sleepy-heads??
Not sure where most of you are..in as far as West-East..which makes you between 5-7 hours behind......
Eric..I did my training at longmoor, cousin of the infamous Dartmoor...there was 8 of us...1 Marine..2 Paras...it was middle of winter...one of the worst winter we had for a while (1984/85) and the temp dropped to -18!!...we were out in it for 7 day's...two of those nights dropped even colder..and our RSM advised of Staff Sergeant to bring us in..as it was colder in Longmoor that night than in Moscow (allegedly).
Since our SM was a cross between 'Gunny Sgt Tom Highway' (Eastwood) and 'Gunny Sgt Hartman' (Ermey) he refused....our clothing etc was only designed for a maximum of -10!...we had to slleep with our Weapons (freezing)..and break the Ice off the water to shave..whilst living off rations which i'm pretty sure a starving dog would not eat.
Never felt my fingers or toes for seven day's....pure Hell to be honest....
We even hard a Heartbreak Hill..not Ridge...and this was just before the movie of 'similar' name..Bar-Steward made us run up and down it with full packs until someone would break...man you felt your heart was going to explode out of your chest...Alien style....
Ah so it's Nash..his Christian name....I get it now....I reckon the only thing to stop him Eric is a gas cannister and then pull the trigger..dum...dum....dum.. dum..I can hear the music now.
Let's compare scars.....

I am in South Florida, where it is a frigid 55F right now. It is around 12 EST.
It sounds like you had fun in the cold weather. You can have it. Every year I was asked if I wanted to go to northern California for winter training. I couldn't say NO quick enough. Lots of hiking through the snow and camping in below zero temps. The only draw for those that went was the Mustang ranch.
I had to look up turbobrick and I guess for you it means old diesel Mercedes.

Hey...if Ampros were still being made they would be at the top of that pile.........
Or maybe I should of said more available. To many are still in service (because of their stamina) and aren't coming up for sale.......
