You must have bad hardware....Perhaps bad ram...On good hardware Ubuntu never hangs.

Actually it was on a 1666MHz netbook with a gig of ram.

Curently running a 11mb linux with a 30mb Chrome browser install. 41mb, runs off a USB stick into a RAM disk. Man this is fast!

It's Tiny Linux,boots in about 30 seconds
