I'll have to dig through my stuff. I know I've got an old Discwasher buried away somewhere.

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm amazed by the differences from album to album. I pulled out my original first CSN album and compared this to a featherweight 1980's release. The CSN album weighs more than some of my mini MP3 players

I use what the Canadian and American Library of Congress recommend:
http://www.loc.gov/preserv/care/record.html
http://www.btinternet.com/~davemct/guide4.html
I got bottles of the Tergitol 15-S-3 and 15-S-9 from Talas, and did a distilled water dilution.
I use the Mobile Fidelity brush, which works like a charm:
http://www.amazon.com/Mobile-Fidelity-Record-Cleaning-Brush/dp/B003DX0S2Q
(cheaper prices available elsewhere I'm pretty certain)
I got two big pizza rounds baking pans that are like 13-14 inches in diameter and a couple inches tall, and wash/rinse the records in there just full dunk, and wipe (scrub if needed) with a dedicated wet brush.
Then I have two file-folder racks that you can get at I think Office Depot for a few bucks, it's absolutely perfect for records, because it basically has this single rounded wire dividers that fall right in the center of the label, so nothing touches the play surface. (looks like a dish rack, but is the perfect dimensions for a 12" record.) I dry the records on there.
(I couldn't find the exact rack I'm talking about but it looks just like this:
http://images.bizrate.com/resize?sq=140&uid=1051640772 except with the top being pointy and rounded, so it only touches right in the middle of the record.)
This stuff works brilliantly. I saved a couple Goodwill finds that I thought would be total garbage. One pair of records had been waterlogged, and were in the outer sleeve without any inner sleeve. The cardboard outer sleeve had basically gotten soaked and fused onto the record. When I pulled the record out, basically half of the cardboard ripped off and was fused onto the record grooves. I soaked that for a little bit, it pulled right out, and I wiped it really good. Sounds amazing!
I highly highly recommend a good wet-wash like this. I can't compare it to other solutions, but this beats the crap out of any dry brush, particularly with really old stuff.
I have only in a couple instances seen any issues with the inner label being damaged by the full dunk. I really don't care about that at all, but if you are a collector, it would be a concern for those selected records. But the full dunk just makes things go really fast, I can wash a couple dozen records in just a few minutes, and I try to wash every single record new or old before it goes on my TT.
Highly recommended!

I can't find the thread with what Cartridge should I buy, that Curt started so I'll high jack this thread .
I asked the guys at Jerry Raskin's Needle doctor what cartridge for under 150 theyd pair with my 60's Acoustic Research XA Turntable.
they suggested this
http://www.needledoctor.com/Denon-DL-110-Cartridge
I was going to get the one Chris W suggested in That other thread the Shure M97 XE I think.
So far the Needle Doctor guys have not steered me wrong but all this Analog talk here lately
has me wondering about your thoughts.
Anyone have experience with this? it had good reviews on their site.

Oh, I'll argue that point bigtime. Discwasher always worked for me, and their ads were based on the fibers (not 'bristles' as I said earlier) would lift the dirt up and onto the brush. I wore out one in high school and college, and to me their ad claims were legit.

Hey, I just got in a 1229 Dual, quite a bit newer than the 1219. It has no base (guessing it came out of a console stereo) and is missing the clip in headshell. Looks to be fine otherwise.
Interested? If not, I'll throw it on eBay for $10 once I test it.

I think I'm set with the 1219 for now. I've been enjoying it quite a bit

One end of the brush was hollow and had a little mirror for checking your stylis right?
Problem is it didn't do anything to reduce surface noise. The grooves are so small that typical cleaning fluids never get down there, the surface tension of the liquid is higher than will allow it to flow down and lift dirt up. I remember distinctly the disc-washer fluid beading up on top of the record.
disc doctor is formulated to penetrate, Ive also heard really good things about spin-clean. Supposed to be the best cleaner under $400. and it costs 80 bucks.
