I played around a little bit I think I also have another convergence issue on the green or red tube.
If I go through the guided convergence setup then after the center adjustment (I guess this is called the static convergence) Then the next step is a zone on the left side of the screen. If I move the up and down keys the Horizontal red lines can be adjusted on top of the green but if I press on the left and right keys then the vertical red AND green lines move at the same time and they don't converge.
In the beginning I thought this was normal but I think we have an issue here.
CVA board broken?
Tomorrow I take the CLM board to work because there they have a special extraction tool to get the chips out and put them in again.
Any comments are welcome

Well id say wait till you clean the CLM chips first. Do all chips on all board on the CLM. If you have a contact cleaner like DeOxit use it
in the chips and sockets and connectors for the daughter boards.
But having another CLM to test would be best.

Hi,
If the CLM causes the issue, I could send you a spare one out of a M8500.
Greetings from Germany

Hi Friedwart
That's very kind but I'll clean the chips first to see if that's the problem.
Best regards,
ron

Hello again,
I tried to clean one chip on the deflection processor and when i put the board back in the projector igt switched on but there was no light on the tubes and no error leds on the back (I could hear HV coming up). I couldn't switch the projector off anymore with the remote and I had to press the small reset button on the back of the processor board. afterwards I could switch it back on and it said complete intialisation done. I tried the convergence but still the same distortion. I switched off and powered down the projector and reseated the ribbon cable to the CONV board and reseated the processor card.
Then I fired up the projector again and again no image but HV yes and on the processor board all the status leds flickered like on the night rider car. I did a reset again and completly switched the projector off and back on.
Now the when starting up the V fail led comes up and I have no image but again I hear the HV coming up.
I am afraid to clean the chips because of the risk of static discharge damage
anyone?

Make sure you put the chips back in correctly. They only go in one way.
The Knight Rider lights or railroad lights as we like to call it is from the DPB, the one you took the chip off.
I have cleaned those chips many many times and never had any go bad from ESD zap.
You better check the chip orientation, there are arrows on the Chip and the socket.
Also one corner does not come to a point, its flat as is the socket.

Hi Athanasios,
I managed to clean all the chips and have put the board back in and the projector fires up normally.
But the convergence problem is still there.
I guess it's the CONV board now or maybe the connectors and flat ribbon connector.
Could I run the projector without the conv connector of the blue tube connected? just to see if something changes
There could maybe be a short in the wires.
I have contacted the guy who sold me the projector (he bought bellows from you actually) and he assures that the projector worked fine before he took it apart.
I guess i need a CLM and CONV board.
In the slot above the CLM is a small print that says color calibration (I gues its the contrast modulation board) Could I try to run without it?
A lot of questions again but i guess there's really something more going on then a bad contact.
Regards,
Ron.

Hi everybody,
Bingo Again!
I cleaned again all the connectors on the ribbon cable that goes to the CONV board and vacuum cleaned where i could. I've found a few very tiny bits of metal dust.
I connected everything back and problem solved!
But when i connected the ribbon cable on the CONV board i realized that i could easily have put the connector so that one row of pins would not be connected and it's not noticeable if you look at it. I think i must have done that. I checked the signal naming on the print it could very well be that. Shame on me!
Thanks again to everybody for your great help.
The projector works perfectly now and the image is really pleasant.
I'll finish my theatre now and will come back with some pictures when everything is setup.
Best regards
Ron.
