How was raster centering better if you no longer have that adjustment?

it was as near to perfect as I could tell.
with the thompson, I had to adjust the red as much as I could and it was still off quite a bit. These things were perfect.
If the magnetics are made to a high tollerance, and the mechanical fit is good, there is no reason why it shouldn't be perfect.
This seems to be the case.

Curt, what did you think of that 9500 Ultra with the Frankenyokes? Could you see an improvement? I'm still thinking of trying this one...

Pin 1 of the Sony connector attaches to the ferrite structure of the magnet. Probably good idea to ground it to bleed off static charges.

Out of curiosity, how much are the required parts to build these frakenyokes and how much time does it take to build them?

Yes, good point. I'll change the drawing and add that.

the whole mod took Chris and I about 2 hours. and I took another hour to make the harnesses.
I recommend that you buy the harness with the yokes if you can manage it. The harness from a Barco yoke will fit in. Barco use a similar Kanto Denshi yoke as the Sony 1292 although the windings are very different. They look the same. and the magnetics "May" be the same. I have a set that I will try to rewind when i get a chance.

Well I just had my first go at this, using a 22-11 magnet from who-knows-what. The results were terrible! Laughing

I tried four different orientations and none worked as well as the original Thompsons. But keep in mind that I upgraded my Thompsons to newer style not too long ago. These are not your typical 8000 or 9000 coils, they are solid 8500/9500 focus coils.

But I'll try again in a week or so when I get some 22-22's in. Smile

what was the symptom?
i believe if you have an 8000 with an old hvps that outputs 34000v oyu will have to turn your deflection coils.
I did not have to do this but Chris did. (we both have 8500 with the higher HV output)
Is that what you are seeing? Picture is askew?

Picture was fine, but it would not focus properly. As soon as contrast hit 50 or above, the freakin thing would bloom like crazy. Laughing
I moved the focus coil forwards and backwards. It works best as far forward as possible (like you would expect) and looks OK at that point until you start to raise the contrast. And ramping electronic focus up & down moves the dot all over the screen! I tried stig/flair but couldn't make it better.

So I either did something wrong or the coil is messed up or what?

I left the 22-11 in it's original casing and just spliced the four wires to a marquee focus coil's cable.

Could be. I remembered that I lost the ground wire that attaches to the magnet. Figured it would not be a big deal for something that was only a test to see if I wanted to go further or not.

This is the connection I made------->

i used the sony harness on mine so that does not look familiar. IIRC the black and red are the higher resistance windings.
simply measure with a ohm meter. that winding should measure much higher resistance than the other.

Well, when I set my meter to 200 OHM and at the Marquee connector, I pin between Red & Black, it gives me a 63 reading.
And when I pin between Orange & Yellow, it gives me a .4 to .5 reading.

This is good? Very Happy

Thanks!

my latest drawings have been updated to show it but I grounded them. Look several posts up and DL the PDF i created.
they are basically static charge dissipation.
